You’ll need an aftermarket thumb warmer kit for this project.
At the handle bars, remove pad and foam. Locate black and white wire coming from thumb warmer. Between thumb warmer and factory plug cut the white wire. Attach white wire coming from factory plug to the middle blade of the three-way switch (Hi-Off-Low) supplied with the kit. Also from the kit connect the supplied “Y” wire with the included resistor to the switch. Wire from the resistor goes to the top blade of the switch; remaining wire connects to the bottom blade. End of the “Y” wire gets attached to the previously cut white wire coming from the stock thumb warmer.
After mounting the new switch and making sure nothing will short, you will be able to turn off the thumb warmer by selecting off on the switch. Hi will work just like stock, hot thumb warm hands. Putting the switch on low, your hands will be warmer than you thumb.
Hope this helps - Derek
So I know that this is an old thread but wondering if any one has just used the separate rheostat to control the thumb warmer. It looks like all you would have to do is replace the switch that Dnrtheil has in the diagram with a rheostat. Just wondering because I have a new panel coming that has the separate controls.
