How long should the hyfax last under good snow and normal driving conditions? Because like every 500 miles my hyfax is always worn to the markings line especially in the front of the skid. I always use oem ones, and I have had it dealer serviced every year since I got it and the skid has been adjusted numerous times by me and the dealer and another guy who works on it from time to time. It just seems like it's way to fast for them to get to the point they are. I'm sick of changing the damn thing's twice a season!!

I put 5.38 wheels in my skid of the SRX. Hyfax on the sled has seen 3 seasons

The line use to scare me. I rode my SRX 1 day after it rained and the snow froze solid. I could smell everybodys plastic burning. Checked my Hyfax after, still no wear..
Now on my MTN Apex, well it could use another set of wheels in the middle.. so a TY member set me a cross shaft and I will press on some 5.38 wheels and bolt it up next season

I don't know if this really helps with hyfax, but I heat my slides up (when new) while running on some marginal snow, then let it sit. I've got over 4500 miles on my current set and still have quite a bit of hyfax left before the wear line. It probably doesn't do anything, but it's something my dad and I have always done.

New hyfax brake in. Heat them up good in low snow then hit the snow and cool them off. It gets them hard and they last longer. I went wide open for a mile on the ice. I could smell the plastic getting hot. I hit the deep snow and cooled them off. They have about 1500 miles so far and still look ok. They should go for the rest of the season.

I got about 1800 miles or something out of my last set but I could have went longer. They were getting thin up front at the bend and a guy I know just wore his through in the same spot and ruined most of his track clips. I also replaced mine with the Yamaha high performance slides, the ones with graphite in them. They're only like $5 more per pair or something and they definitely have less drag than the regular ones.

2700 miles on my Viper hyfax, still room to wear. Not ideal conditions during that time, no extra wheels.

Try running the track looser. If it is too tight it will wear there. As long as it does not ratchet or derail, it is okay.
Yamaha sells a wheel kit that fits at the bend.

Use graphite slides from royal!
I always used graphite slides from royal on my proaction. My stock ones were worn out at 2000 miles. I put the graphite ones on and I rode the sled until 6200 miles. The hyfax are about half worn. Then I installed the zx2 skid with graphite on it and have got about 1500 miles with little wear.

I have done the first ride heat and cool thing. I used nothing but the graphite slides. Only thing I haven't done is the wheel kit. I just feel like something's not right with the sled set-up cause they go like 500 to a 1000 mies and they are worn to the line, mostly up in front bend.
DAMAN: how many miles can I go safely with them near the line? Only at the front bend.

Shocks need rebuilding!
I have seen slides wear out quick on the front bend if the front shocks on the sled are worn and need to be rebuild. Sled sits lower and seems to wear out the slides. Run the track as loose as possible and check all of your track clips for wear, rough edges. You should be getting at least a season or two out of them.

You know now that you mention that I was just thinking today when my sled was on the truck that the skid wasn't even touching the tailgate only the front of the skid was contacting the bed. The shocks are kyb viper shocks. Maybe a rebuild this summer is in the works! They are kinda soft compared to last year.

Once your hyfax reach the "warning" line keep riding it that way. Keep an eye on them to be sure, but ill bet youll be really surprised how slow they use after that.

as a general rule that i use is if you can fit the hyfax between a 10 mm wrench head then its time to replace

I have heard that before now that I think of it. I'm sure I'll only get in maybe 200 miles tops of riding left this season, so I'm hoping they will work that way for me.
