Trimming pics to fit

What are you guys using to trim down a pic to fit as an avatar?I have a program to resize them but it distorts them to the point they don't look right but if I could just trim the borders down and resize just a bit it would look better.I've got a couple I'd like to try and redo for my avatar but they don't come out very clear.I use ms paint to resize the pics but they don't look right.

The easiest way I know of is to use http://www.photolava.com/ just upload them and use that drop down box to resize them to whatever you want. You don't even have to create an account on there. It has a setting for avatar too.

You want to use the thumbnail setting though to make them the right size on here.

I have that on my pc now but it wont resize small enough to allow use as an avatar.I'll give the other ones a shot,thanks.

You have to click that advanced button, then go to custom and enter any size you want (like 150x113).
