I have a 2000 sxr 700 with bender pipes and v force reeds with spacers. When I ride the trails it runs awesome but when i hit a lake or long straight stretch, it winds out to 8600 and stays there. When I let off and hold it at 7000 for a few seconds then bar it, it won't pull back up to 8600 ,it stays at 7000. If I let off then bar it again it winds out fine.
This is what is in it: 89L with .8g rivet, W-S-W, 14.5mm rollers, 51/43 helix, green secondary spring,stock gears,150 mains,52.5 pilots,needles raised 1/2, and a srx rear cooler, 4400 engagement, 1100ft elevation.
The weights, springs and secondary bushings are new. I have tried a stiff spring Y-S-Y and it makes it worse. I have checked the carbs, and everything is to spec. I even put the stock reeds back in and it still does it.
Please help me figure this out, I'm guessing it is clutching but don't know where to start.

I can't wait to get the answer to this problem! My wifes 2001 with the exact same setup is doing this. I have pulled the clutches apart and can't find anything wrong. The backshifting is the only problem, otherwise it runs great. Just looked, my setup is the same except I have a Y-G-Y primary spring and stock reeds.

Lack of backshift. Wind the secondary another 10 degrees.The 89L,s upshift great but don,t like to backshift very well.
 
make sure the rollers are good,,,i had similer problem ..it was my rollers, bushings were bad. also sliding sheave bushing could be bad.
 
The rollers are new and the bushing was changed start of last season. Secondary was at 70, I'll try it at 80. What about a silver spring would that work any better? :o|
 
Silver at 60 might help but it will hurt acceleration. The main problem is the 89L weights.
 
Mine doesn't like to backshift with the 89L's either, so I just wrapped the secondary tighter (70 instead of 60). But Turk recommended going even more now since I get such good traction with this track.
 
I tried tightening up to 80 and it still does it. I put my clutches from my 98 xtc 700 that has a maxximum performance clutch kit: 8ca, red maxx spring, green secondary at 70, 52/40 helix. The revs are a touch high at 8800 but it seems to run better, but still does it just not as bad. I wonder if maybe it is a touch rich in mid range or maybe it has a weak spark on one coil. Wednesday night it will be colder and I'll see if it makes any difference.
 
Are you sure you should have reed spacers in with the v-force reeds? also ,I would try 15mm rollers. Just an idea
 
Hummmmm

I run 89L's in my viper but I run them with a lot lore weight in them and a stiffer primary spring. This seems to have helped the backshift. I like these weights. I've got 5g in them with a G-W-G.

I have ran Benders for several seasons with great results, with a similar set up. I had the same problem, and solved by leaning the screws a bit and later instaling a tempaflow. I have 50 pilots but never installed them, rather be on the safe side with the tempa flow. I was overfueling and it had a hardtime clearing itself out in loose snow. I can now ride 2 up in powder and have no issues, instant snap wityh a inch an1/4 track. My setup is 150 mains, 52,5 pilots, 22 gear 89ls with 2.4 rivets, 14.6rollers, 51/43 and stock green secondary spring at 80. I have ran this set up for 6000 kms with out problem. I have been playing with primary springs lately and will have to check what i am using right now, want to say www. Went with a 22 gear cuz i seldom do top end but can hit indicated 160-165 kms/hr with this set up as is with almost 11000 kilometers.
 
The problem isn't off idle, it's at 7000 rpm when I back it off from wide open, about 70 miles an hour or so on hardpack. :o|
 
the pilots add fuel @ all throttle positions. i have spent a lot of time tuning with the bender sxr pipes & part of your symptoms can be in the carbs. a stock 700 with these pipes, stock reeds & no spacers runs best with 47.5 pilots, stock needle clip position ( middle ) & 150 mains.
v-force reeds richen the circut even more because they are more efficient, thus making the problem worse. throw the spacers in the garbage. they add no h.p. ( 0 ) on the dyno.
my 800 sxr has the same pipes & v-force 2's & i run 50 pilots, needle in stock position ( middle ).

I'm going to try what you said with the pilots and spacers because I've tried every combination I have with clutching and nothing changes. :o|
 
I put the 47.5 pilots in, took out the spacers and put the needles back to stock yesterday and tried it out last night. It was -10c and it ran perfect. I took it out today and it was 0c and it loaded up a touch but easily cleaned itself out with a couple of cracks of the throttle. Man what a difference. When i hit a hump on the trail and gas it, the skis are way up in the air , it feels like its going to flip backwards. Thanks bufalobob I would have never thought it was pilots. I guess I will have to jet down for the warmer spring weather. How far down can I go on the mains? :2strokes:
 
it was the pilots & the needles. i have run that same setup - but w/ 147.5 mains on nipissing in very cold weather & never had a problem. 147.5's are real safe @ 0c.
