Is it worth putting an M10 in 97 vmax600xtc

I love the sled but I hate the rear susp. Does it really ride that much better. Is it worth the money? Is it hard to install. Lets hear from anyone that did it. Thanks.

just buy a used xtra 10, or an edge skid and get away with a lot less cash outlay.

If you can get an M10 cheap enough (used) go ahead, otherwise the skid is worth almost as much as the sled.
 
been asking that same question myself!i look at it this way,cost of new sled 10,000. on average ,cost of brand new skid 1200 to 1600 depending on if you buy m-10 or ad boivin zx2 .i like my sled enough and it is in good enough shapre to justify the 1500 dollar outlay for my back which is priceless as far as im concerned.also you can remove the skid and keep it for your next sled as they both use mounting kits .
 
its a investment in sleding , you keep it then put it in the next one. bad part is you will use more gas , as you will be able to really fly
 
I think the average cost of a sled is much less than 10k.

that said, for 7k you can get a new IQ shift, or mxz tnt, and that is only 5500 more than the skid alone, and you get an entirely new sled. a 97 XTC with an M10 will not ride/ handle as well as a new sled of that caliber with stock front and rear suspensions.

But, it is your $$, spend it how you want to:) 1500 spent on a new skid will make it better than with the old skid, and you can always swap the old skid in, sell the sled, and drop the new skid in a different sled.
 
I just bought a Xtra 10 with Fox shocks on Ebay for $250 with shipping. Does anyone have any helpful hints on the install?. Thanks everyone for helping me make up my mind. If have been going crazy tring to make a decision. That was all I could think about. This Snowmoble thing is addicting.
 
fleet man put an xtra 10 into a TSS chassis vmax 600. The install apparently went really smooth, and it improved the ride and capability quite a bit.


I am sure someone has dropped an xtra 10 into a proaction chassis. I do know the xtra 10 weighs a lot less than the proaction skid, and eliminates the W arm breaking that proactions are known for. I am sure it is a lot better skid as well, although I really do like the proaction as far as a 2 up suspension. It eats the stutter bumps quite well.


What year/ model did the xtra10 come out of? I have owned both the 96 xcr one with fox shocks and the 00 xcsp one with the position sensitive valves.
 
Tjc702, The xtra10 I put in my 95 600 was out of a 97 ultra. It was a simple install. Just need to make sure the holes are drilled as close to exact as can be. I went with that skid as the dimensions I had were from that particular skid. That was a TSS chassis as horkn posted. It was a great improvement in ride but way better traction and transfer compared to the stock skid. The Xtra10 doesn't have as steep of an angle of attack at the front as the Yamaha's do. I tried a 1" camoplast track with the stock skid. Not satisified. I then picked the track, still not satisified. Then changed to the Xtra10 and had a totally different animal. Loved it.

Now onto your Proaction situation. I haven't installed one into a Proaction (YET). If I can't figure my 96 SX's traction issue out it WILL get one. I did some preliminary investigating and found extra holes on my 97's tunnel. I went and measured the holes on my 95 and they are the exact same distance apart and the same distance from the top of the tunnel. I didn't measure from the axle to the front holes but they appear to be the same as my 95. I'm thinking that the PO had an Xtra10 in there at one time. I thought I posted a pic on here just a few days ago.

I'm thinking the Xtra10 install into the proaction chassis will be even easier than the TSS chassis and there is no need for mounting spacers between the skid and the tunnel.

It took maybe an hour to measure for and drill the holes, I first made a template out of cardboard and transfered the holes from the cardboard to the chassis. Then reameasured like three times to make sure they were right. Actuall skid install and bolt in was under 20 minutes. It took more time to mark and drill the spacer plates than install the skid.

you obviosuly never went to look at sleds in canada ,lol.our prices are a little higher than your priceing.iq shift is 8900 plus 14percent tax!yammy,s well rob a bank first then go look ,lol.

I forgot about the looney land issue....

New shifts and tnt's are US $6999 OTD at worst, but most can beat that deal easy.
 
yes, the ride is way better, it depends on your wallet but you can find used for $600-$800 dollars, about 4-5 hours to install and its straight forward measure twice-double check and drill once....CP
