srx power valve

hi my buddy bought a 98 srx 700. me and him were cleanin the power valves and when we took the middle 1 off the cable was snapped. the valve was also stuck what would cause this?
 
What would cause this you ask?? the last owner not doing proper
service and clean them, they need cleaning once or twice a season
depending on milage, use a good full sythetic oil too helps,be on top
of jetting and oil pump settings,all helps..

you need to adjust them when done and check oil pump setting..
 
The cable snapped because the PV was stuck, the PV was stuck because they were'nt cleaned regularly. Also what daman said^^^^
 
I just bought a 2000 and have the same problem. 1 pull through and one broken cable. Those valves are expensive little suckers.
 
just curious how much do those PV's go for?

as for oil, i'd reccomend amsoil Interceptor, thats what i use, should still get pv's cleaned annually, this oil just insures you will not have excessive carbon build up on the valves.
 
For a srx through the stealer there like $80-90 bucks..so you want to keep
up on your cleaning habits...

i use interceptor also..
 
They go quite a bit used though and if you search they can be reasonable.....It is nice to have one hanging around in the garage.....just in case!
 
Cleaning

Before My Warranty Ran Out Last Fall I Brought My Sled In And All The Valves Were Broke!!so I Have Put 500 Miles On The New Ones And Just Took Them Out And They Needed To Be Cleaned!!!!so Point Here Is Watch Them They Are Expensive
 
Hey you guys...
If I am going to swap the servo motor and case (mine broke on a jump) don't I need to bring the idle down to below 900 RPM's or something and then shut the sled off?
I went to tech pages but nothing there on opening the motor all the way (or closing) I don't remember...But I want to rip it all apart, replace the motor and case and clean the valves.
I though I remember something about the servo motor having to be in a certain position before tearing the valves out??? I know last time I did it, I had to do something like that...

To remove the servo assembly......

all you need to do is by hand or gently with pliers turn the servo pulley
clock wise to put allot of slack in the cables,then unhook the cables off
the pulley and unscrew the cables and remove from servo.

unbolt servo assemble from sled.
