My '78 ET250B project sled is finally running. It will run great for 10-15 minutes but will start to bog bad and run bipolar. If I shut it off and let it cool for a while I can get it running good again. One thing thats still not perfect is the sight tube that is on the carb. Mine is the original and has some cracks and leaks slightly. If the bog condition isn't being caused by that vent/sight tube leak, could it be symptomatic of bad crank seals? Ive never had a sled with leaking crank seals so I don't know the general symptoms. I know any leak at the carb should cause a vacuum loss to the diaphragms inside, but that should cause a consistant bog not one that comes after time.
Anyone who would like to weigh in on this problem please feel free. Thanks in advance.

how long did the sled sit before you started restoring it?
might be like my dad's. his needs new stator i think as you could run it on the groomed trail for hours. go off trail and every 20-30 minutes we had to change a plug to keep going. was not fouling them, just heat them up so they would not fire again until they cooled down.
try spraying eather or brake cleaner at the seals and see if the rpm changes. if it does it is the seals.

I believe the sled sat for 7-8 years. The last registration sticker was '99 I think. I will try the the ether deal this week. If not I will look into the stator. A stator would be a whole lot easier, with my luck its crank seals.
