Helmet type?

O's SRX, Where did you pick up that balaclava? Sounds like the ticket on those colder days. How large is the eye opening? I like them small to help protect my nose and temple area.

Ajsxr, Go with the open face and goggles, you won't be disappointed. I was affraid of the colder temps inside the helmet and frost bite, but it actually cools you down when riding hard.

My only complaint is riding behind a group of people there is a tendency to breath in more fumes from the sledders ahead. Simple solution, ride up front. Better view anyways!

Ditto on that balaclava, O's SRX.

Modular

I am sold on my modular helmet from Skidoo/BOMB.. Agrees with the breath heavy...I do alot of that and it never fogs. I ride alot of powder that flys up in my face and when I ride with my mx its COLD. I like the MX during a day of trail riding, but soon as night comes....modular all the way!

I would say SAVE SAVE SAVE and have them BOTH! ;)!

But that just some guy from Iowa talking..and you know us we ride in anything!

I switched to a MX style with quick straps last year. The only problem that I had with it was the side vison. When your on a yammie and always looking back to see where the others are at you have to turn your head a little further to see behind you at least when your wearing googles. I am thinking about putting on a side mirror so i can focus more on carving the trails :flag:

I have had a Doo Modular since they came out and my problem w/ them is when it is really cold (,-15 below F) the snorkel breath tubes eventually freeze up SOLID and I have to stop and take the helmet off to removed the ice from. Otherwise I get light headed and find myself sucking in laborously to get air.

Anyone else have this issue?

For open face lids, what is the best COLD weather balacava???

I'm a big fan of the motocross style helmets, if you get the goggles that are meant for the lid, not just a set of ski goggles you have WAY more peripheral vision than I have ever had with a full facer

then combine the weight savings and the fact that you can hear what's going on around you, feels like you're not wearing a lid at all except for the wind protection

I was just looking at a new MX style helmet. I like my HJC with the electric sheild (when it works), but I have to replace the sheild again,(3rd time @ $80). It's like they wear out and the circuit in the sheild gets weak. Time to try something different.
