Nice!!! How tall is it to your back bumper?? Did you long travel the front? How does it ride?

bot of rear bumper is 22 3/4 " .(same as my buddys XP800X also in pics!!!) i did not long trav the front because i wanted to keep my ohlins. bot. of front bumper is 15'. i find it rides much the same as stock but does not bottom out at all. no inside ski lift like i had thought . i did loose 5-8 mph on top , but well worth it !!the shocks are stock 02 viper's. perfect valving for my 210lb . in saying that, here in st. john's, NFLD. we do not have groomed trails , or farm roads. (Lots and lots of both , but not groomed)so i'm not sure how it would handle on groomed surfaces (tippy wise). any way , i think this is the way it should have been built from the start. major improvement on the big and small bumps and by no means an expensive or hard procedure to do. i got both shocks for $180.00 bucks new(exchanged at dealer)!!

Seca...Is that a whole new skid? or is that the stock proaction just with viper shocks? what mods are required to make those fit? i'm thinking about doing that with my srx, need more info from you on what you all had to do to make it work......
its either long travel my sled, or get my shocks sent into pioneer performance to get revalved and springed to my weight, i don't know which way to go.... want the rear suspension to be more stiff but have more travel...... but i don't really want to sacrafice 5-8mph on top end. i'm lost as in what to do, long travel it (looks good on yours) or to get my shocks sent out for valving...
Did you loose acceleration too?

it is the stock pro-action with 02 viper rear shocks. all i needed was the shocks and thinner bottom control rod spacers(7.5mm)seeing that yours is 01 srx you will need the longer rods . yamaha changed the mount location on the rails for the rods(moving them forward=shorter)on the 00-02 srx for better weight transfer. so you will need the longer rods (98-99 srx will work)sending you shocks in for valving to pioneer will not increase you trav. most likely will just make your ride ever harsher(just my opinion -maybe someone else can chime in on that topic)as for the loss of top end , as far as i know you are going to loose some , thats the trade off. bottom end is better , i find . i am now getting a better hole shot due to better weight transfer. i have my rods adjusted to max transfer and i also installed a 1 1/4 ripsaw. so i am sure the track also has alot to do with the better hole shot and the loss of top end. cheap mod , DO It!! you will not regret it!!

i have the 02 viper shocks in my but about the transfer rods. Seeing how the 01 srx rods are shorter. if i put the 98 rods in will i have to put them farther on the rail like the 98 srx or can i leave them just where they are?
Yamidude, if you are considering adding the Viper shocks, I have a set along with the stock 98' srx transfer rods. Most people that add these, also add the longer Viper limiter straps.Yamidude59 said:Seca...Is that a whole new skid? or is that the stock proaction just with viper shocks? what mods are required to make those fit? i'm thinking about doing that with my srx, need more info from you on what you all had to do to make it work......

Let me know if your interested, and I will figure out a price.

if you did nothing with your rods , i could be wrong, but i dont think you are getting the full 11.5 " of travel . your rear shocks would have to be somewhat compressed(not fully extended) with the shorter rods. those rods were only on the short travel sleds . in 00,01,02 that would only be the srx. and yes , i forgot to mention , you would need the longer straps from a long tral. sled.

so if i need the longer rods, i will need to do some modifcations to make it work?it won't just bolt in?
I bet 5-8 mph does feel like much loss on top end, espcially when your achieving over 110 mph with enough room.

Is it a good idea to get longer viper limter straps? is it really nesicary? if i don't need i won't get em, but if they go right in the place of the stock straps i'll get them....... so seca.... all i will need for the shocks to fit is the spacers (7.5mm) kinda wondering about the longer rods, fit or not without drilling.

i got 108mph 2 weeks ago. no drilling , just replace the sliding half of the rod (top) i think. someone else can chime in here cause i would hate to steer this gent in the wrong direction!i saw here on this site many times people talking about long trav their srx's. it always said that you needed to change the rods on the 00-02 srx to achieve long trav. but not on the 98-99's cause they already had the longer rods. not sure if a spacer change is req. on the 00-02's either. pm "Betheviper" he is the king of long trav swaps. hope this helps. Joe.
when you put on your new track did you go to 8 tooth drivers?
seca

no, i removed front and rear protectors and tunnel protectors. you have to change drivers only when studding an 1 1/4 (or larger) track on an srx.

how is it in cornering
I added viper shocks and extended transfer rods and could NOT corner
1 mile into the ride. i tipped in on it's side and adjusted the FRA to the softest setting
the sled set in, made a softer ride out of those supposedly too stiff viper shocks, and cornered on rails again.
if you are more off trail or strait away stuff, no biggy, but I love the twisties and was worried what i did for a moment until i adjustsed the fra to soft.
played with the limiter straps just a touch to get the perfect slight inside ski lift coming out of corners. amazing what small adjustments do. try adjustments, you can always confirm you like the original setup and go back, or learn something and improve the ride
just FYI

I made 10mm spacers to extend my rods ( 2000 srx)
the spaceres were steel, outside diameter same as the shaft that the bottom bolt threads into, and the inside diameter clearanced so the bolt slid through and rebolted to original rod. then play with nylon spacers to get the proper gaps ( while sitting on or laying over the sled)
cheap if you have someone who has a lathe and drill press.

I have an 2001 srx with long travel....call pioneer they make spacers for extending the transfer rods about $20. They worked on my aftermarket HIperf rods too. Still rides like crap though.

dave, how do u like the long travel besides the ride? ha ha, is it the pioneer long travel kit, thats what i'm going with i think in the summer...
