What do you mean by 300-500 feet? Daman I just want to say thank you for all your help. This is my first year riding with my son and you have helped me so much.

No problem,i know how frustrating it can be to not have things working out
and any info would be appreciated..
run the sled 3-500 feet in that range then pull plugs, you don't want to
do a long run and chance a burn..if jetting is ok do a longer run 6-1000
feet,etc..

If I was to lean it out more would I do it with the needle or the main jet?

lowering your needle more would lean mid...
I have had the same problem for a while....on mine its the seal between the hood and the airbox when its down....also my air filter was old and breaking down and getting into the carbs. Read what I posted earlier......
For the last month or so I have been looking around for some similar to OEM filter material to replace the old air filter from my 1996 V-Max 600. I found the stock filter would always move around under the cowling and I was constantly picking filter material and dirt from my pilot and needle jets. I first tried a really thin Briggs & Straton filter....no dice...the sled just bogged. Then I tried a fine steel mesh...no good...just got clogged with snow.
Finally I found replacement filters for de-humidifier. Most have the same (very porous) filter material that the stock filters have. First I cut a piece that fits over the air box inlet, leaving about 2" exta on each side of the rectangular inlet (this to make sure nothing from the engine bay gets into the air-box). Then I siliconed all the cracks between the fiberglass hood and the black plastic cowling. Then I cut another chunk of filter to fit over the air inlet which is tucked under the cowling. The filter that I purchased was only about 1" thick so I doubled it up to fit snuggly over the inlet.
Sled runs better than ever....even checked the plugs to make sure I wasn't running richer or leaner than before.
Cost of new OEM filter = $70 Canadian (that doesn't work)
Cost of de-humidifier filter = $4.50 Canadian (Got mine at TCS Store in Arnprior, Ont)
Hope this can help someone out there....this problem has been pissing me off for 2 years now.

Thanks jedrow.I was thinking about the same thing. I just got back from my parts store and bought air filter for a newer car. I was going to take out the paper part of the filter and try to use that on my sled. I have 2 questions for you where is the dirt coming from and why does it keep happening? Did you replace the air filter or did you just cover the inlet at the airbox?
