Not ready to throw in the towel when the snows gone. I've had the bug since I bought this sled to try it on asphalt & grass. I never get away enough during the winter. I'm always dicking with my sleds during the summer months, so I figure why not. If I wanted to, I could go once a week to drag tracks...131 or Miland, prolly others if I really look into it. As far as grass, I'd have to look into the local schedules...not sure when they run but here about quite a few here in Michigan.
I'm sure this SRX would be fine in the 1/4 on tar. But what about 500' on grass? Should I bother with this machine? I guess I'm looking for some advice for a newb with a trail sled just looking to do some goofing in the summer. I would only mod the clutching/jetting/gearing...no engine mods cuz this is my trail sled also.
I read several posts during a search & realize it's a pretty involved deal to disect the whole side of this racing. Just looking for a starting place. In either form on the 3 areas I mentioned. I know about the cool carts & have no probs making one up. The ? I have tho is should I install a water temp gauge so I know what's going on before I start to get lights flashing?
I realize setups are not easily given up since so much work goes into them. But is there a "standard" for 500' & 1/4 mile gearing? Summer jetting? As far as clutch setups I'm sure I'm on my own there.
Thanks for any info.

for asphalt, id compress the rear shock as much as you can, taking away the give in the suspension, dont know if it applies for sleds, but i do it with fourwheelers, and it helps tremendously, gets ALOT better traction

i would tie down the suspension, remove your hy-fax and add a couple extra wheels and you will be fine as fas as that goes. stock 700 i would pry try to gear for about 120mph, what peak rpms do you run? pry around a 22/40 my buddy has a stock yam 500 and runs very consistant low 12,s at 100mph. as far as the water temp gage i wouldnt worry about it, i have no cooling system and it dosent get too hot just running the 1/4. you will be fine to run it and then drive back to cool it off.

Looking at your AV, you run on tar? I see your from MI...what strips?
So your saying a 22-40 is a good 1/4 mile setup?
What jetting for summer temps, is there a range?
Also, I have the typical 8DN-20 w/4.5/4.5/www---green 2nd with 51/43. Would the stock 47 be better? Or do I start all over on clutching?

Thanks for the reply. Are all the HC's the same part # for grass? Is it a fixed weight or adjustable? Sorry just dunno.YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:GRASS RACING HEEL CLICKERS ALL THE WAY. YOU WON,T RUN A BETTER E.T. IN 500 F.T. !! 20-40 GEARING. 3:16 (yammie tony)
We only went to the track twice with my buddies 01 srx.
I was messing with my sled so we never touched his suspension or clutching.
The sled spun bad the 60fts where horriable 1.57's every time.
it ran conistantly 10.68@117mph.
The 01 srx had stock jetting and the air box removed.
Stock clutching.
22-38 gearing stock is 23-38
The sled would over rev (9000rpms)50ft before the end of the track because it was out of gear.
With some suspenion, clutching, geariing work 10.30's woukld have been capable.
