Broke my suspension...What would you guys replace if it were yours?

There is a great post on hard core sledder somewhere about it. Look on the 4 stroke side of ty for kingers edge skid install. It has a link to the post. www.jbshocks.com has the measurements needed from tunnel top down and from driveshaft back. It really is pretty easy. Maxdlx

Yeah I just found that link to the measurements in Jonnysrx's old thread about his install. Not sure how comfy I am doing this on my own. Might be asking for help on this one. I am fairly mechanically inclined, but I think I would be more comfortible doing this with someone who had already done it before. plus I need to find the skid...

Am I looking for any "EDGE" skid? Preferably with the Fox shocks a ssume.
Was there a "EXTRA" skid too and was there a difference? Don't know Polaris stuff at all....

Thanks

Man this site is incredible!

I was just offered a free SRX skid minus the W arm if I pay the shipping. (Thanks Essarex)
Plus I found an 800 mile Edge skid WITH freshly rebuilt fox with zero miles on them for $350.00. I know thats a bit more than I have seen them, but this skid literally looks like brand new! Looks like I may just put the Edge skid in afterall...and I'll put my proaction back together with parts from the free one as a spare or in case this Edge deal falls thru.

Now I really need to figure out this conversion. Anyone local want free beer and a nice dinner for helping swap this skid? I'm not to sure I can do this one on my own...

Its really not that hard if you go about it the right way.I have never done the edge but have 2 sc10 installs under the belt.If you know the distance from hole to hole on the doner sled that is a must because the back arm has to be compressed wth a ratchet stap to come to the proper measurement off the doner sled.On a c10 for shure.Next put the two skids side by side with the back axles backed right off at the adjusters.Line the back wheels up and measure the differance in the back top shafts mounting locations. This will enshure you will have track adjustment.Remove the front mounts and relocate to a sutable hieghth.Or find a couple more and leave them there incase you put the proaction back in.

Can someone tell me the difference in the Edge VS the Extra skids? They look pretty similar. If I can get an Extra 10 reasonable, would that be a decent skid tto put in the SRX?

What were you jumping a house?
I didn't jump nothing. In fact...the trails were in really nice shape that week. 4500 miles and that skid said it had enough. And I am only 175 pounds. Another reason I want to try a different skid. That pro action is a POS. :whine:

I was looking to replace mine with a edge skid or maybe m-10 over the off season.... I herd alot from both sides. Some hate em some like em. Oh and where can i get one of thoes anti pussy cat stickers?

The "edge" skid came in the edge chassis sleds.... stronger arms..more travel tha the "extra" skids.

The extra skids were in sleds long before the edge...mostly lower performance sleds.

The Hi-Po sleds... ie:XC, XCXP...usually came with the polaris version M-10..

Google has alot of information if you use it...

My recommondation is the edge skid....... WHY?

I have 2 friends that are VERY hard riders..... Over the years I have fixed alot of arms off of their sleds of varying models. They both bought 2002 XCSP 800 in 2002.. edge chassis....well 11,000 miles later..I have yet to fix a broken arm..... and their riding style has not changed.

For me ....I needed to look no farther.

What ever you put in place of your pro-action is going to work better....unless you use a skid from a 1960's sled.

I put an SC10 II in my 98 SRX and got the measurements from bluewho. The install took about 3 hours including removing the old one,all you really need to be sure of is your measurements. The old adage of measure twice and cut once is very appropriate only you drill rather than cut.I got a decent deal on Ebay on my skid so in total I probably have about $260 tied up in the install, not including the beer ;):D .It really isn't that difficult just have confidence in yourself and know that the result will be WORTH it.

I think I found a decent Edge skid for under 200 bucks...and I will most likely grab it...but reading up on how much top end is lost on the SRX with a long travel skid, I'm skeptical to do it. I know I already lost a few mph going to the ripsaw.
I know the ride will be better on the rough stuff, but to be honest in 4500 miles on the pro action...it really was not all that bad. I know I called it a POS but that was in the heat of tearing it apert and seeing the damage. I'm only 175 and I had it set up to soak up the bumps half way decent. Now if I got into REALLY rough stuff it would not compare to a long travel skid and I know that, but I really don't ride it all that often on trashed trails. I may still rebuild my pro action with a parts donor skid someone gave me and swap it and the edge back and fourth to see top end results. I know some of you that long traved your SRX will think I'm nuts but I really did not mind the ride before I broke it.

If you dont want to lose speed or gain height and want the same handeling with less weight and better ride get a SC10111 .Cant say they are better than the other 2 skids but am happy with mine. And i never minded the ride that the stocker gave us just the track replacment after they break did me in.

Fortunately I knew something was up and zip tied everything up out of the way on the trail so nothing would happen to the track.

the edge skid will work very well for u and yes its a little heavier skid than the extra 10 or 12 , if i was closer i,d be the first to help u, good luck with that, i agree with u as long as ur not on the rough stuff they work very well and they where built for speed for sure so having said that something as to give up , allso they are not very good in the deep snow.
