A Friend Of Mine Has An 2001 Srx700 And He Has A Roller Secondary And Said He Gps His Sled At 128mph Could This Be True With A Stock Motor

Doubt it!!! 128 is a bit steep for a stocker.. How much chassis work is done to this sled??? May be possible with a completely blueprinted chassis..

Sure it's possible....Re-geared,... with a tailwind,.... downhill,...and on a clean lake.

Track will let go before that. For sure by 125 mph a standard studded Yokahama or Camoplast track will fail, catastrophically. A non-studded will not go much higher, it'll just take a few more seconds before it blows. I was present for one session of the final field testing of the '03 RX-1 and track failure was actually the main issue at that session. The sleds were originally geared too tall and were seeing speeds in that range...for a few seconds until the tracks blew apart. Racing slick tracks and other specialty tracks may be a different story, but I heard a Yohahama rep say that no normal track has any kind of duty cycle to speak of beyond 120 mph (actual speed).

.....and a low profile speed track nailed up good........like the one's the guys use in the Alcan 200.

Hey Marty, just did a radar run Sun. with my 01 SRX. All stock except #4 Hauck clutch kit, 22 t primary and a speed sheave and hit 108.1 on the lake with mostly ice. just enough snow to keep things going. Thats with a 192 Gold Diggers!

mrviper had an srx i remember reading about that he saw some pretty high mph numbers out of, not sure of the exact numbers but i was sure it was over 120.... i believe it was clutched, with the 79 srx oversize rear idlers and the polaris idlers...

just remember reading about it on here in one of his posts. 128 is a high number though for sure

hey i live were there are speed demons by the truck loads nbssr racing and radar guns all over the lake and i have seen 100's of srx run the gun 4000ft. + all the way up to april 19 one year , and stockers are stretched at 117 mph and the ones with a litlle clutching and knowledge are consistent 120mph-122mph and every once in a while you will see one at 125-127 so you know those are ported and have speed tracks bender silencers and more .

A stock motor, stock pipe srx set up for speed runs only can hit high 120's with lot's of tuning and testing.Guys that say it can't don't have a clue how to tune a sled.
If it has a trail track and trail studs set up for trail riding he's pulling your leg.

He is over tonight.

I have a old Polaris 500 track on it, only 5/8" lug with NO studs. I have the overdrive sheave with a roller secondary from Hauck. The secondary spring is Silver in color and is wrapped at 80 deg and has 3.5 grams written on the side of the clutch. Not sure what is done with the primary but the spring colors are green-white-green. I got a glimps of the tach and looked to be 8600-8700 I believe. The belt I had on was a Gate's Xtreme 38x44**, not sure the last two numbers off hand but it was a 44 1/4 long 1.375 wide belt. The temp was about 10 degrees and was on the flatest-groomed-trail I've ever been on in my life(Willard Munger North of Hinckley, MN) with about an inch of loose snow over hardpack. My GPS was in my pocket and am now wondering if I got a good reading. I cleaned my power valves (pretty dirty) and got a new drive belt, blew the old one! Going to try it again this weekend to check this out again. Any more thought's?

i think it,s possible but not with out blueprinted chassi and gps is not the same as radar gun, if it,s that fast then u better take it to the race track and u will find out , just my 2 cent,s

128 does sound high but I dont think it is impossible. One thing people do is over stud their sleds and this all takes up valuable hp for top end. I was running 96 picks on the stock track, completely stock 2001 SRX except a set of small wheels added and ran, on radar, 113 +114 in 1000 ft ice track. Track wasnt great, full tank of gas and both runs I had to let out around the 700 ft mark to straighten out and then got back into it. I think if not for letting out and in better conditions, I would have been close to or at 120 so I think it's possible in perfect conditions with a well set up sled. Just my 2 cents.

This is my sled.
I'm not sure if any motor work has been done or not. It purrrs like a kitten and doesn't miss a beat! I bought this from a guy in Hayward, WI who claimed to be good friends with Pat Hauck??? I don't know if this was true or not. This sled is a '98 with '01 case, cylinders and heads. I was told that the crank was one that wasn't available to the public only factory sponsered guy's got these, again, this is what I was told, not sure if true. It does also have V Force 2 reeds and a cold air kit. The guy I bought this from lived on a lake and was into drag racing people for fun. He had the carbs jetted 3 jet sizes larger and think he wasn't using the airbox. I re-jetted for a '00 with a 148.8 on the PTO side to be safe and hooked up the airbox. I assumed this sled was a stocker as I only paid $1800 for it. The guy told me that he weighed 260ish and I only weigh 160. If this turns out not to be stock that will be just fine with me, just trying to figure out what I got. This was good to find out about the track maybe flying off. Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in the back of my mind! I am really curious if my GPS reading was right and cannot wait to get back out to give it another run!!!

Well, i'll post this again.

My best run with the stock motor and a trail track (camoplast 9791) ran 127.1 mph, with 144 1.25" chisels, which hurt top speed. The sled was at stock ride height. It was perfect conditions, in roughly 3500' on my plowed ice track. It is not possible with the factory track...big lugs, very heavy, and very stiff. Being ported I didn't get much more top end out of it, but did accelerate quite a bit harder. I think 128.4 mph was the best I ran with trail porting.
