Went riding this weekend, Going down a back field WOT for about 1500 ft. then BOOM, I shut it down, Opened the hood, Belt blown to bits, All 3 clutch weights ripped off clutch, One went thru the hood straight thru the belt guard and thru the hood, Found the other 2 in the bottom, There was no pre warnign signs, I just went thru the clutch cleaning it and replacing bushings at the beginning of the season, same weights that I have run past 3 years.
Any Ideas on why the destruction????? I'll have pics later

thats why i don't deal with anything clutch related on my sled, my dealer does a good job anyways, and besides IF something like that happened i'd have someone else to go to and say " hey this never did this before you fixed it" so its on them....
You never know.... Its hard to see cracks in aluminum, And yes when you change from stock you are taking a risk, But the 3 years of fun I have had with that clutch is well worth it. Looking at getting a Kevlar blanket for the clutch cover though....

Great suprise huh! Think you're going to just throw on a new belt then, OH S_ _ t! Get the stretcher.
When my belt broke it took the Heel Clickers with it.

Clutch
My son had his gernade two years back. Sent the spare plug that was on the clutch cover right through the hood ! Threw a sticker on the hood, looks sweet but he did buy a new cover and a clutch. I remember the speedo drive being destroyed along with the cable. Give me a call if ya need some help. Pat

Yup, when the belt went the clutch flew apart. I was told to never rev a motor without a belt on it. (course when you blow a belt it's out of your hands)! After hearing that the weights are coming through the belt guard and the hood, I know what I'll be doing this week. 1/4" diamond plate aluminum cover over top of the clutch cover.
^^ It's no joke when they come apart!! When mine blew, it ripped the bracket that mounts to the foot rest, wadded that up along with the clutch cover and tossed it 30 feet from the sled!!! Man it just ate that thing like it was a pretzel!! My hood wasnt latched and when it blew....I found solid chunks of my primary 40-50 feet from my sled!!! Mine blew from a stress/heat crack in the sheeve. I've had 2 primary's crack...one that blew and one that I caught in time. good luck.

Is it true that the heelclicker weights will grenade the clutch if your belt breaks??? I've heard a story like this from a buddy with an artic cat but never really have found any info on it. I've never blown a belt on my machine, lol hopefully i dont either specially if something like this is going to happen.

I've blown a belt going about 80 mph and I had no problem with weights, maybe I got lucky. But then again I was using a dayco belt. That will be the last non yami belt I will ever buy....And I was running yami weights.....

Boy, do those pics. look familiar!!!!!!!! Mine were Heel Clickers that did the same thing. Took chunks out of my balanced /blueprinted clutch, also chunks out of the towers that had been machined to allow for easy weight access.
Cutting the lake at about 80, almost Foster's time, boom! Half mi. from my dock, pop the hood for geat news.
At least I now know that stock weights go too... I had a cheap azz Dayco belt that one of my vendor buddies hooked me up with. 280 mi. (hard miles!) and she S_ _ t the bed.

This was a OEM Yamaha belt, with about 750 miles on it.. Of some hard take offs and riding.

Clickers can blow even if the belt doesn't let go. Saw it last year. I still use them in my sled though.
Looks like I need a sheave and some weights to make this one work again,
Bought a whole new/used one. That way I can have a spare.
