could clutch be binding a little!!!

1st of all I checked the operation of the TORS and it works.Cuts engine when I place my thumb at the pivot point on the throttle while pressing the throttle. This happens when I am roughly at 3000 rpm.I disconnected the TORS just to see if it is the problem.Went out for a ride and when I pin it from a stop, again the engine revs up to about 7000-8000 and BLAHHH!!! again that aweful sound of the motor. So TORS is not it.If I am rolling and pin it,it is always good.Sometimes I can get away with it from a standstill, but seems it is becoming more evident of a problem. Can anyone tune in here with ideas or suggestions.I know some of you out there have probably gone thru this before.ALWAYS SOMETHING TO FIX>>>>>AHHHHHHHHH !!!!#$%&*
At least I am running a true 8500 at wot with that new green spring at 70 wrap.
Could this problem be engine starving for fuel...doesn't make sense, but only again happen from a standstill when pinning it.#$%&* #$%&* :winterrul

Maybe I'll try for the hell of it putting in a set of new plugs, but can't see that being the problem.I run the Iridium plugs also.Any suggestions would be helpful.....daman where are you when I need YOU!!!

we just fixed a srx 99 today that was having rev problems and tach problems , we disconnected the wiring from the hood junction and tied a binder twyn to it and pulled it out from under the motor and wow it was pooched , rubbed rught through, fella left here happier than pig and sh.....t

he had 2 locations on the wiring harness with rub through on the wires.
This causing all kinds on strange and intermitant problems.
It only took about 1/2 hour to fix. If you never pulled the harness out from under the motor I suggest taking a look.

Yes I have pulled my harness from under the motor last season. Was trying to solve a Tach problem.Went thru every wire and was good.Re taped every wire up good and re taped all over that again.Turns out the problem was from connection in front of the clutch cover and up.I just spliced a new wire in and solved it.My motor is not missing or anything like that.It is like it hangs-up at that certain rpm, release throttle a bit and pin again and I rev up to 8500.Never ever happens when I am rolling a bit and pin it.Just from a complete stop and pin.I may take my carbs apart and clean again, but doubt that is it.
Now I will take both of my clutches of the 600 and replace the SRX ones to see if anything changes.Checked my plugs today and they are a beautiful tan, cardboard color on all 3 of them. Not showing it being to rich.I am jetted for a true -20 F. by the way(2001 stock settings/specs)Rollers are all good,no flat spots on them.Got extra rollers to try to.This really stumps me here.
So if I pin it hard from a stop, like I have been doing many a time this year,it hangs up at about the 7000-8000 rpm mark. Now if I am going 5-10 miles per hour and pin it..it doesn't happen at all.It doesn't do it every time, but seems to be more then usual. At any other speed, doesn't matter what speed,it won't do it either. If I go wot and then let go of throttle, and get on it again...no problem.Just seems to be there from a dead stop pinning.#$%&* Good thing there is no one to race, because I would lose with this happening.LOL..not an SRX..can't lose.
And again the TORS is working fine, throttle has slack in it to,not to tight.

Same Thing!

My 2001 SRX 700 is doing the same thing! I have a Bender Clutch Kit, 1 1/4 Ripsaw track, and have RPM issues as well.

Today, my SRX and I were on a long, high speed run where I saw about 8100-8200 RPM. I backed off the throttle for a moment, then got right back on it. The engine would only pull 7000 RPM. Then, I would back off the throttle again and get back on it. RPM would again hit 8100-8200.

This just started a few weeks ago. Powervalves are MINTY clean and perfectly adjusted. Belt rides just above the edge of the secondary. I have checked all the basics, and am not having much luck on this RPM problem either. Hopefully, I'll find the problem.

what's your clutches like. You should be pulling 8500 wot by the way. This issue is driving me a little crazy, but sled is still running great besides.Keep in touch pro.

One of the Guru's here described a scenario that fits with yours. With no studs and aggressive clutching you tend to spin the track more, especially from a standstill. The clutches upshift too fast and overload the motor before it gets to the powerband. Backing off the throttle stops the track spin (as long as your backshift is quick enough) so as you get back on it the motor is able to get into the powerband before the track breaks loose again. What do you think?

I went thru my secondary clutch today to look things over.Seems I found the culprit to my problems.Seems like the shoe ramps I just put on recently are no damn good. They are not OEM ones, but a cheaper kind from Royal Disributing.Seems they aren't as hard a compund as the OEM ones. They have worn down rather quickly and have made tiny grooves in the ramps of the helix to.This I can see being a binding issue, helix not sliding smoothly and hanging up.The more they are getting worn down, the more hang up I am having when I pin it and helix not sliding all the way.
Found the original ones I took off, they look to have more of a shine to them and the wear on the old ones don't even come close to the wear of the new cheap ones.Took some 400-600 emery cloth and smoothed out the surface of the ramps again. The ramps had tiny grooves running thru out the length of them. Can't believe them shoe ramps(buttons) would do that to Aluminum.Put the original shoe ramps back on and will go for a ride and see if anything changes.I probably will order new ones and complete bushing for both clutches.
Do you guys know hows the best way to remove the spyder from the rear sheave,it is a left thread..so undo to the right.Does someone on here have a system or made up a device to aid in this removal.Or where can I purchase a tool to do it.Would be worth it to invest in one.My dealer years ago charged me pretty damn good to replace the bushings on my SXR600 clutches.

archer I can see logic that to as another problem to look at.But I must admit the clutches have to be all in tune to,worn out parts won't help.I will be ordering all new bushings and slides and washers for the primary. And bushings and shoe ramps for the secondary also.Or I can also use a different primary spring with a differnt rate which may slow down the upshift just a little. Now have w-w-w in there.Have to look up in thr spring charts to find the next rate springs that I could use.

did u try smaller pilot jet ? are u sure its not because it give to mutch fuel on stop and go

i had problem with that last season and it finish that my helix was to big and went the belts was cold sometime it was upshitting way to fast from a dead stop ...

I am going to do one thing at a time.I have the original 42.5 pilots here.I still think it is my secondary clutch binding.Need to ride it to see,but the friggen wind storm outside now does not make me feel like going.Weather is up and down here.#$%&* But I will be forced to go because my wife's van is outside and needs to come in the garage.Sled has to go into the back shed then...so I guess I'll have to get dressed to go out.

well went for some more testing runs.It seems like that bog or hang-up is still there when I pin from a start. Now this is happening around 7800-8000 rpm only. You get going and all of a sudden it is like the rpm's stall, not climbing, let go throttle and snap it again and it clears. So as others have said, maybe it is upshifting to rapid. Now if I hold the idle to just about engagement, say 3500-4000 and pin it,it makes it up to 8000-8200 rpm,but seems to have lost it luster until the revs start climbing to 8500.From a rolling start it is way better because not spinning out track and putting belt into a higher gear that quickly. When I had the HC's in there.this was not present at all, even though the HC's really spun the track.
So if I go back to my stock y-w-y spring, should drop my engagement speed to about 3500 and give the clutches more chance to shift more evenly.
I had this set-up a week ago.y-w-y primary and red secondary at 60 wrap.Engaged at 3500 but topped out at 8700.But I don't remember this hangup in there when I pinned it.
I also had the same springs with a 47 helix.Engaged at 3500 and wot was 8400.Could go with green spring and 60 or 70 wrap to raise the top rpm's.
So I will just try the y-w-y spring first and see where I am at.Will have to wait till my next day off to do this. Not much time left in the season, wander if this will go into next season.
If all fails,I am going strickly back to stock and except the over-rev.Seems like some of the fastest SRX's on here seem to be the bare stock ones. What is that telling me?Just ride and no more wrenching I think.

Put Your Cylinders And Head On Greyhound This Summer And I Guarantee You The Fastest Srx In Manitoba Wont Be The Stalk One $420 + Your Shipping Probaly $30 Each Way

harnessracer..you mean you want my money or what? What do you have in mind!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to put the y-w-y primary spring back in and get my engagement to drop, hopefully can launch with less of a spin and not upshift the clutches. Will also adjust my transfer for a little more,60/40 on the spacers.Looks like the weekend the temps are going to be to warm again, near 0 C.Not good to do testing in,but Friday will be -15 C..my day off and testing continues.#$%&*
