I had a predator 1" track put on last august and ever since then the sled seems nothing like it used to be. It doesnt pull at all like it used to, doesnt hit the same top speed and its almost to smooth of a shift. I keep blaming it on the track but then I remembered that both clutches needed springs and some other stuff (I dont know anything about clutching) when it was serviced, same time a track swap. I realized that the sled had originally had clutch work done with a hartman set-up and I dont know what else. I'm thinking that the yamaha dealer put it back to stock oem specs when it was serviced this august. Before it would pull just like a viper in low end, and easliy get to top speed. Now it's like riding a cruiser ie venture. I noticed the top end has gotten lower too. It tops out at 80, and has a hard time getting there. Before I could easily get it to 92 and it topped out. It hauled like crazy getting there too, and had very stern, stiff shifts. Now its very smooth low end then it hits 65 and it has a very hard time getting to 80 where it tops out. Where do I start with clutching? Any ideas. Like I said I know nothing at all about the clutches. I just want it the way it was, or better.

you have an 01 vmax 600 and it has a twin in it???

Did you put the twin in the 01 chassis? or was it originally a 500 twin, converted to a 600 twin? because the 600 twin was long gone by 01.

but I don't think it is track related. I took off the stock 97 venture's .510 " track, and put a .92" track on her, and the top end did not change. Granted, I have a venture, so it is geared lower, and as such, it gets to 75 pretty well, but after that it gets to maybe 85 and that's it.

It sounds to me that a clutching setup would fix your issues. Perhaps a spring is worn, or other wearables in the clutcha re past their limit.

it was originally a 500, converted to a 600 to oem specs. A yamaha mechanic owned it before me, he got parts cheap and wanted it to be a 600.

what kind of clutching do I need to do? If anyone can even tell me a good try for a search that would be helpful. I typed in clutching but it has so much stuff that was confusing to me I couldnt apply it to my stitaution. I dont know what my problem with clutching is. I can rebuild a motor.. but clutching ... forget it, lol!

Yea a good trail/agressive set up is hard to find anymore for a 600 twin
did ya check out tech? i thought there was one or two set ups in there
Max..

Re: Clutching for a 97 600 twin

I would run 21/40 gearing. Get a set of 8ab weights & dial in the clutching to run at 7800 rpm. I think 3.1 gram rivets in each hole will be close but this is an 11 year old sled & my memory sucks.

Hey Max i also found this one by turk;

8ab weights; 50/44 helix, green secondary spring at 60 wrap. Clutch it to run at 7800 rpm. I think if I remember that far back 2.4 gram rivets in both holes was close.

Thanks guys! I probably overlooked alot in the tech section.. like I said I have no idea about clutching. Thanks. If anyone finds anything else post it!

Pretty much yes,,,i did tweek it just a little when i first got it but that
was a wile ago,i don't remember now... :o|

I ran 8ca's with a 51/43.It hran really storng.For racing I ran a hauck blue primary spring and a hauck silver secondary for traiil and the lake.I ran the hauck blue primary and a green sec spring.You will put a whoppin on stock yami 700 tripples up to 100.
