Cmon man whats the deal with removing the drive. I pulled the speedo cover and gear is off on chain side but it wont slide over enough to remove the unit...do I have to grind the rivets off the carrier on the left side or what. I looked at service manual..that was real benefical...NOT.

I assume you have the speedo bearing off. You'll need to remove the chaincase, then it comes out pretty easily. The speedo bearing is usually the hard part.
There are 2 set screws on the speedo side bearing. Look under the tunnel.

you should not need to
I did mine twice now ( two shot tracks)
if you remove chaincase ( keep brake assembly intact) and loosen the set screws to get the speedo side bearing to slide inboard, you can fenagle ( is that a word) the shaft out
soemtimes the bearing gets frozen on the shaft some, but make sure the setscrews are loose or you won't get far.....
replae that bearing while you have it all apart.
hope that helps

i have a special tool that pulls the shaft with bearing out together. that way you dont have to remove the chaincase. real east only take a few minutes.

remove the chain case. Then it is easy.
You will spend more time screwing around than you will removing the chaincase

Update
Removed chaincase and ground off rivet heads on bearing carrier side to remove the gosh darn thing. Should I replace all the bearings? Seems pretty insufficently engineered, I would have guessed after making a few billion snowmobiles the knuckleheads could design it to last more than 4000 miles. Things should go 20,000.

I've done two tracks with the instructions on this site. 98 SRX 600 and an 02 Viper. Never had to drill out any rivets. I bet the bearings are fine, most people just do them because you have it apart. If it was a Polaris, you'd be lucky to have gotten 4000 miles out of any of them.

I did one on a 600 vmax, 700 MM, SRV and a phazer.
Never had to grind off any rivits.
remove the chain case on one side and remove the bearing on the speedo drive side. Remember to loosen the set screws on the speedo side bearing.
