Check the needle and seat. My 500 was burning gas and oil to beat the bandit. I replaced the needle and seat, in each carb, and the gas milage improved considerably.

I just got the sled here tonight and took it for a quick ride. 30 mph was reving about 6100. I am going to back off the secondary and gear it up a tooth. What are the stock fuel screw settings, and peak rpm for this motor? Thanks

500's aren't that bad, you have got to have something wrong, My old one got 9-10mpg punding it through the woods, and yes, the motor is not stock, nor the clutching. It is and 01' my buddy owns it, we went riding last week, I checked my viper at the end of the day and he had 1/4 tank more than me and I got 9mpg. The 01' stock gearing is good for 98 mph.
I think you have another problem
I think you have another problem
mine was a 01 and it was dropped 1 tooth from factory on the top. that is what the tec pages say as well when you compare the gearing over the years. without the tooth best on gps ever was 80.18mph with a 150lb rider. once i did the gear change it would get over 90mph easily with trail clutching. maybe the dealer geared yors up before you got it?
