Can someone tell me the difference in the Edge VS the Extra skids? They look pretty similar. If I can get an Extra 10 reasonable, would that be a decent skid to put in the SRX or am I better off with the Edge skid? Also are the mounting holes identical as far as spacing on those 2 skids?
I ride pretty much weekdays so i don't see REALLY bas trails...and if I do ride a weekend day, I hop on the RX-1.
Thanks

Edge=13.5-14" travel...
Xtra 10= 10 " travel.
Edge skid has much stronger arms and shafts.. Plus it's newer.

I can't tell you the differences between the two, but I regret not thinking about an Extra 10 before stuffing a Viper skid in my '01 SRX this year. In all fairness, I haven't been able evaluate the Viper skid on trail but I suspect based on what I've read, it won't perform like the Extra 10 did.
I bought a '96 XCR monoblock which was the first year for the extra 10. It was awesome right out of the box. I relocated the RR sissor stops for weekend drag racing and rebuilt the shocks with quality oil in the spring every year. A slight revalve the second year and installing the RR stops to thier original location made it the best big bump skid around at the time (IMHO). Again from what I've read, it is still one of the best ditch banging skids around and still maintains a relatively low ride height.

I just got done putting a 136" x-10 with the holz coilover conversion in it in my 144" srx. So far so good. I might do the same to my wife's sled over the summer so I guess I like it.
hmmm...thanks guys. So either skid is not a bad skid.
Will the Edge make the rear sit really high like a new sled? I don't want to lose handling on the SRX. I'm thinking if the Extra 10 is a decent skid and it won't sit as high I will go for that. Seems like there pretty cheap too...
Anyone know if they are universal as far as mounting? Found a pattern for the SRX tunnel but it's for the Edge. Wondering if I can still use it for the Extra?

When I did mine I just eyeballed where I wanted the front mounts and the rear's are 27 1/4 inches behind the fronts. It was amazingly simple and with only 4 holes almost impossible to screw up if you can sort of read a tape.

One word of caution...if you do not get the front hole in the proper location...the geometry can be off...which can lead to the track being way too tight under compression...which will lead you to a long walk back to the trailer without drive bearings....so make sure to do your homework first.
And yes the edge skid will make the sled sit higher in the rear...where do you think the extra 4" of travel comes from ?? LOL.

Did a search on member jonnysrx and his thread on his install had this link in it for the measurements.

I was going to post it but I locked myself out of photobucket because I could not remember my password. Anyhow...I assume if you go by these measurements since they are the measurements from a Polaris sled, that the skid will compress properly?
I know it will sit higher...Sort of a dumb question I know. I'm more looking for input on guys that have done the swap and what they think of the handling. I know it will ride better but i'm on the fence because I ride mostly during the weekdays in a not really busy area...so the stock skid is not all that bad for the riding I do. Plus this is not my main ride. It's my middle of the week groomed trails sled.

The ride of an Xtra-10 skid is WAY better than the stock one, handling is decent too. I followed the measurements from the jbshocks website and the install is pretty easy, only a couple hours or so.
Here's a few pics of what it looks like, and a couple of the new mounting hole locations when I was finished.
Hope this helps.

So the rear hole is higher than stock it looks like. That hole is the measurement from the top of the tunnel on that page from JB shocks? (135mm) Sure looks like it's tucked up in there more than the stock skid and with more travel I would think it would be hitting under compression.
I thought I read that the front holes on the Polaris skid will be in the area of the stock front plate rivited to the tunnel on the SRX making it easy to just drill a new hole thru the plate and your done with the front....but it looks like on yours you mounted a new plate for the front holes inside the tunnel? Also on the rear, What did you use for support? It almost looks like you went thru the tunnel and thats it??? There has to be some sort of bracket there for support right? I'm only going off your pics...and my sled is not in front of me but I thought the front mounting holes (plate) is up in the footwell on the SRX?

I have a 2005 Edge in mine with the Fox PS3 revalved and its a great skid, bump wise it isnt even comparable to the proaction, sled jumps and lands great, and transfer is also amazing. Overall completely changed my sled.... Also with my C&A's it handles like its on rails...
Oh yeah rear bumper sits at about 22"-24" off the ground... not sure what a stock proaction is.

i tried this before and the tension under compression was the exact prablem i had , but looking at those pics sure makes me want to try again , even looks like the 25 degree angle has reduced . i got a 96 indy that i can steel the skid out of . the link to that site for dimensions produces blury image on my computer is it just mine or everybody else .oh and i got a fiend who converted his srx to a viper suspension and he lost about 4mph on the gun ddoes the edge skid do the same????????????

and yeah my guess is your going to lose some top end!

The rear I drilled a hole through the existing rear plate, it hits by about 1/2", the X-10
measurements are different than an Edge skid. The front mounting holes are like
11 5/8" back and 5 1/4" down from flat of jackshaft for an X-10, and then from that hole, 23 1/16" and 5 1/4" down for rear hole. I think an Edge skid is around 9" or so back from the jackshaft.
