I need to replace front heat exchanger in a 97 sx 700, can anyone tell me how much of a pain this will be or any advice ? from the first look it don't look fun.Also need a heat exchanger. Thanks for any help guys.

buy a bottle jack - makes it a lot easier - and yes, it will be a pain.

Can your old one be welded in the sled????

Get the bottle of Jack, you need to take out the track, suspension, motor, get some good bits or a grinder. If the exchanger has a hole near the top of the fins and its deep you'll never get it sealed by welding

Is your sled insured? They might total it for you.
Do you know a lot of guys that can help?
Look on the bright side since you will have your sled completely apart you could do some serious detailing.

Yea, one of these things a friend said,,,hey can you give me a hand fixing a coolant leak ? I like the insurance idea. If I charged him $40 an hour he'd have at least a $5-600 labor bill. Thanks for the the help TY guys!!

If you aren't panning on doing anything to the motor, you could have it out in an afternoon. Pull the pipes, motor, suspension and drive shaft and get a good grinder/drill bits.

You think 12 to 15 hours is going to cover the R&R time? You might be a bit off. I figure on about twice that much to start with and if it goes well aim to be ahead of schedule.
We got a new tunnel for one of our mid '80 phazers and after looking at it (Got it from a wrecked front end chassis) we chose not to change it. I forgot why we needed it as it was 20 years ago. One thing still comes to mind. "Look at all of those rivets"
If your sled was not a 700 I think I would bypass the front cooler and get a rear cooler to supplement the loss.

I had mine out in 3 hours. I put a stump through it.

its not that big of a deal, like 800 said remove track suspension motor, but be sure to use the oem rivets or an equivelent and add a few extras. i had mine work itself loose after replacing it. since the steering coulmn attaches to it, there is quite a bit off stress and it made the steering really sloppy.
