don't worry about the slack right now,get your alignment spot on then when you get that unloosen each side equal amount of turns..

Do you mean ratcheting noise? Is it from the driver/Cog from the front of the skid or is it along the sides or rear where a mis aligned track will hit the cogs in the track along with the track clips into the wheels.
Best bet is to have 2 people there. Lift the rear of the sled a good foot off the ground for safety. Then crouch behind the sled and have your helper slowly turn the track over (a few MPH at most) and look at the relationship between the track windows and the sliders. They should be even on both sides at the windows. Don't worry about the distance between the outer edge of the track and the rear wheels just concern your measuring with the center of the window being centered on the sliders. After that you can do as Daman said and tighten or loosen what ever is needed equally on both sides.
I run mine a bit on the loose side. I think many people do. The .98-1.18" sag at 22 pounds is a bit too tight. My new camoplast track sags about 1 1/2 inches with no weight pulling on it. I do not have ratcheting issues.
By the way incase you don't have the service manual here is the adjustment tip straight from page 2-24:
Track alignment - shifted to the right - shifted to the left
Left Adjuster - Turn Out - Turn In
Right Adjuster - Turn In - Turn Out
And when your done tighten the rear axle to 54 ft. pounds.
