I got a studded track but sled needs tunnel protector, exchanger prot. etc etc...my track is "okay" but traction is not that good. Track is out right now because of the blasted bearings so I wanted some experienced opinions. I do have everything for stud setup. WHat say you??

Run the studded track 100% unless all you do is ride powder. Studs are for your safety as well as the safety of others. You can't stop or start on ice properly without them. I truely think studs should be mandatory.

If you are like me you were looking for someone to talk you out of it because it's such a pain in the behind to do,lol...
After studding all my sleds over the years, I spent the winters of 04 and 05 with an unstudded Ripsaw and I loved it, BUT we spent alot of time in very good conditions with plenty of snow. That being said last year we encountered alot of icey conditions and I missed the grip and stopping power, so this year I am studded once again.
Its give and take depending on where and what conditions your normally riding in.

Studded without a doubt, nice for the icy corners that develop in some areas. The added takeoff traction is nice too.

I run the 1.25 iceripper and it's a nice compromise. Hooks up hard on loose trail conditions.

Thats sums me up exactly, the first winter with the ripsaw was great and last year was'nt bad either. This has been a better winter in many respects with the length of our riding season, but more ice with these temperature swings making me miss studs also.I may be studded again next year.S.X. said:After studding all my sleds over the years, I spent the winters of 04 and 05 with an unstudded Ripsaw and I loved it, BUT we spent alot of time in very good conditions with plenty of snow. if you want to get anywhere on an srx.... studs are a must.... Protectors are well worth it considering your front heat exchanger is part of the tunnel, so if that gets damaged beyond repair.... be spending some major $$$. Front and rear heat exchangers were not cheap to my surprise, luckily i found some good used ones....
I think new they are 50-60 bucks each.....
