This post is for a friend,He has an 01 SXR 700 ,Last weekend we started out on a ride, and he had to pull over within 5 miles because his temp light came on, I saw him add at lease a half a quart of coolant to the sytem and as it was running it seamed that the air was never ending, my 1st thought was head gasket failure. We ran maybe another few miles and he said it felt like the rev limiter was kicking in, and it wouldn't run much over 3000 rpm, my 2nd thought was maybe a bad tors, when we looked into that we found a coil on the mid cyl, had come loose from the bracket and had chafed the poss wire on the tors switch bracket, so I looped the tors and it ran great for about another 5 miles and started this rev limiter problem again, he headed home and we rode the rest of the day ending at his house. he replace the tors switch and now it will run good for a little bit but slugish from 7000 up. and he told me tonight during that last ride, he blew the coolant line off his carb heaters, I told him to replace the head gasket and he will be fine, What do you all think about his issues.and does anyone know were to just purchase head gaskets only for this motor. Thank a lot for any responses. Den

Look at the plugs and pistons to see if the motor is taking in coolant. That will tel ya if it is gasket/head issue or not.
