Glazing belts

I have a 02 viper that I extended to a 136, I started out with a 1.25 lug
and this year I went with a 1.5 lug it works alot better in the deeper snow
I changed the helix to the one that came with the kit from hartman and never had problems with the clutches heating up enough to glaze belts, until I went to the 1.5. I've smoked 2 belts in 300 miles. I am runnig ultimax 3's, my gearing is stock so are the cluthes, just changed the helix as I said.
I'm just boondocking nothing steep, just powder riding and alot of carving is heating em up. any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
although not the solution to the problem, those ultimax belts are not even in the same league as the 8dn belt. turk will surely get you the clutching info you need.
 
I, will try the 8dn belt, where is a good place to find them?
and what gears should I be running? Thanks for the help.
 
for gearing, i would start with changing your bottom gear to a 40 or so depending on what you want for top speed...i run a 42 in mine and love it although the top speed is not the greatest, the instant acceleration is a must in the deep especially when climbing through the trees...the ultimax is really soft, I like the 8dn alot better for low elevation riding/boondocking these are available at any yamaha dealer....the stock clutching is far from efficient, there are a million different ways to go, i currently am running heel clickers and 48/42 helix, works pretty well, others run factory yamaha weights with good luck as well not sure of the best setup there, try the tech section...lots of setups in there....others can chime in with what works for them....i would think your secondary preload needs to be tightened/stiffer spring as its prolly sucking the belt into the secondary when you are in the deep snow, thus acting as if you are trying to take off in "third" gear and causing belt damage. good luck and once you get it dialed in u should not have any more belt issues.

forgot to mention that i was a very happy yamaha man this weekend as i beat 2 f7's and a 700 sabercat (all 2004's) numerous times in short races with this setup.....they sure were wonderin what was under the hood of that lil 120 hp viper....lol....little did they know it was only clutched and geared....hahahaha....stupid cats.
