Is there a down side to getting my triple pipes coated? i am considering this option for summer down time, biggest hassle is getting them sent out and what not..... will i need to mess with anything carb related and do fine tuning to get it right? or is it just putting it back in and go?

What are the Positives for doing it and negatives if any....

thanks

Joe

i was just going to post a similar thread, as i'm in the same boat. i would like to know as well. i currently have heat tape on my pipes, but its just to high maintenece. tape keeps tearing and coming off. not to mention its terribly itchy. i want to get my pipes ceramic coated too, and want to know what would keep the heat into the pipes more.....heat tape or ceramic coated.

Ceramic coating flows better, and reduces under hood temps. You never have to worry about it peelig, or burning off. Plus it makes them look awesome.

would there ever be a worst case scenario of having to rejet or tune up something like that?

Its looking like i'm gonna do it this summer, anyone got a website i can get more info on it?

also give me some reliable names in ceramic coating.... i will plan around it then...

Sending my Pipe out tomorrow...kinda stocked...it'll be my last minute mod before I
store it away for the summer...but still lots of time play...

i can't believe winter is practically over....is it a pain in the A$$ to get the triple pipes off? i'm most like going to send it out in spring.....

I had the SLP pipes and can on my XCR coated brand new (inside and out). If the pipes have been used, most places will only coat the outside. If you plan to add EGTs, now is the time to have the bungs welded.

This was 10 years ago and at the time Jet-Hot was about the only reputable place. I see others have entered the market since and I can't speak about them, but I was very satisfied with the work Jet-Hot did. John Force and Coil used to do a commercial for them and I think they entered the aftermarket after a long relationship with NASA.

I sold the pipes a year ago after 8K miles and they were like new. No chipping or cracking. I believe you can order different colors but the silver coating is the most rubust.

The coating did help with durability as it reduces the large thermal cycles that fatigue the metal. I think wrapping the pipes would keep more heat in than ceramic coating but like you said, it's tough to keep the tape in place and it also retains moisture against the pipe. Other than the cost, I don't know of any down sides.

Yea, i want to get Egt's, Damn, gonna be pullin out some money this summer for all that, triple Egt gauge is 250.00 and the coating probably varrys from 300-450.00-

i can have my cpr pipes off and on in 20 minutes after doing it so many times. i got a deal on my coatings when i got everything done by fireball coatings in ontario but they regularly charge 350 for tripples including manifolds and silencers. they did a great job and had an very fast turn around time.

I did my ceramic coating myself. I bought some of the stuff that most shops use (Tech line coatings). We have a large burn out oven at work so the curing thing wasn't a problem. I did mine in black. I ended up doing about 10 sets of pipes. The stuff isn't cheap but if you have the oven and blaster, it is not a hard thing to do. If you have the time and convince enough prople to do it, it is cheap. I was charging about $50.00 per set. I didn't make any money but I did get mine done for free.

Ceramic Coated Pipes

I got mine done (CPR) by TopGun Coatings in Calgary before the season started after I bought my sled in Sept.2007. Looks awesome. If the pipes are "used" they will have to clean the insides out (cost about $30 more overall) for the pipes and stinger ends. No rusting, keeps heat inside, and looks good.

yea, those look good, is it something most places do to cleanout the inside of the pipes before getting the coating???

What other colors are available,

right now i'm thinkin black or the shiny chrome, such a hard choice, i'm thinkin black because i don't want the pipes to dominate the look of the engine...

Also, Is it smart to get the part of the pipes coated that come right off the engine? or should those be left the way they are?

I think it would be kinda cool to either have all black pipes into a chrome can, or all chrome pipes into a black can.... But does the can really need to get coated or is the pipes the biggest deal?

that will be my hardest decision next to who to send my pipes to, WHAT COLOR, it would be cool if other people on this site had pics of pipes with other colors, or more photos of their pipes with black coating or silver coating.....

I know 2000srx has a sweet set of power inc pipes that are jethot coated! They look f'n amazing!
