trying to remove ski bolts from a 96 VMAX XT, the nut came off and the ski pivots ok, but the bolt is seized in the TSS lower knuckle. any tips to getting this out without ruining anything? i could cut the ski and it would probably slide out, but is there a way to get it without ruining the ski?

The steel collars are rusted to the bolts. Try lots of PB lube and heat. A few years ago, I had to cut right through that ski bracket to get one off! Just to let you know, there is a set screw holding the ski bracket to the pogo-stick.

does the head turn? if it does not put a socket and powerbar or long ratchet with pb or any other penetrating oil.

i know one other trick but will cost you the bolt. cut/grind the head off. put the nut back on with some washers underneath the nut. then tighten the nut. this will pull the bolt through the strut slowly or break the rust loose so you can pull it out more easily.

the bolt dosen't matter, neither do the skis really, i've got a set of composites to replace them with new hardware. i would just rather not ruin the skis since there is nothing wrong with them and someone might want them. i can't remember if the bolt turns or not. i'll give some of this a try if all else fails i can just cut both ends of the bolt off and when the ski comes off i can slide the entire bolt/sleve out. i have new sleves as well.

Same thing happened on my XT when i did it last year.

Take the Whole knuckle off the spindle and press/drill it out, had to pry the ski off mine when the head broke off the bolt then my dad took it into the shop and they drilled her out shouldn't be too hard to do at home either. Then put a grease fitting on the knuckle when you reassemble and you will be good to go in the future.
