Have you cleaned the carbs? also, have you cleaned the smart carb port that some guys with smart carbs mention?
It may possibly be the smart carb just making it hard to start. Every once in a while our 97 venture 600 (which is essentially a MM with a 2 up seat) takes quite a few cranks to get it running, even after it is warm. I had the carbs thorughly cleaned/ soaked this winter, and it still happens, and we have 125 psi per cylinder on ours, even with 6000miles on it. For us it is not much of an issue due to Electric start. I do have to flip the choke for a little bit (a few seconds) after it starts as well.
