Hey guys,

I just picked up a used Viper oil tank for the sending unit for a buddies 99 SRX, but after looking at both tanks they look like they should be swapable?

Just wondering if anyone has done this or knows if it is doable?

I have done it. The bolt holes line up but you will need to get some spacers for the gap between the oil tank and gas tank. I can't remember the exact space, but it is 0.75" or 1". I don't think I have any pics of it but will look. This is probably one of the easiest/best mods to do to a SRX. Filling with oil is so much easier now.

Thanks for the info, but can you explain the gap you are talking about a bit more?

And I agree the larger cap on the viper tanks is much nicer.

what do you need to space it for, they bolt on the same the tanks are the same in the front? I've switched numerous gas tanks but never the oil tank, is there some interferance up buy the anti freeze bottle or something?

he may have used a viper tank on an pre 99 gas tank. the front of the tank is not made for the larger oil tanks. i have put a viper tank and coolant tank on my venture. i had to cut a recess in the coul for the cap to clear. i dont think a srx coul would need this.

My change was done on a 98 SRX. I had to use a spacer (basically a thick washer) on the bolt between the gas tank and the back side of the Viper oil tank. I only had to use the spacers to firmly secure the viper oil tank against the gas tank. I will try to get some pics this week. if not I will get some this weekend. kgwmu
