Diagnosis help needed: 02 SRX intermittently losing power

Hey guys.

This past weekend, my 02 srx started acting up. Ive put 5K miles on her to date. 1st day of trip, the overheat light came on intermittently, but no signs of actual overheating, plus occasional power loss only at high end pulls, sled ran like a champ otherwise.

2nd and 3rd days of trip, overheat light never came one, but continued to see intermittent drop in power on high end pulls. I could avoid the drop in power if I kept it under around 7500 rpms. Sometimes, sled would run fine for a few hours then only to see the problem come back.

No dcs light by the way.

Could it be the wiring harness? Could it be the dcs despite no dcs light?

SOunds like the harness to me. It rubs under the motor. Tie a string to the end where it conncets to the gages and pull the harness from under the motor. The harness comes up by the mag side carb.

I was hoping to hear from more 02 srx riders whether the dcs would cut out the power suddenly like I was experiencing. I wouldnt lose any lights or anything, just rpms would drop suddenly and I would have to let go of the throttle and keep her under 7-7500 rpms.

At this point, will start with the harness.

dcs shouldnt do anything if the light doesnt come on..... does your dcs light flash on startup?? i dont think really think that the dcs would drop your rpms that much, mine has come on a few times and i slowed down and it went off.... definately take a look at harness, maybe even check your powervalves for any pull throughs and check your servo to make sure its opening the valves up
 
THAT DCS SHOULD BLINK THREE TIMES WHEN FIRST STARTING SLED. YOU MIGHT HAVE HARNESS RUB THROUGH, BUT I WOULD OF THOUGHT 2002 WERE CORRECTED. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
Your light should come on during start up and flash 3 times,(check your bulb also) when my dcs actvated (dirty carbs )it pulled the rpm down 500rpm when it came on .you may be having deto issues and your light is not working

checked my dcs light last night, it does not come on during startup. DOH.

Hopefully its just a bad bulb, anythign more than that and I will be coming back to this site with more questions. : )

MARK NEEDS TO BLINK THREE TIMES AT COLD STARTING. I,LL CHECK MY 2002 TECH MANUAL TO BE SHURE BUT I THINK THAT THE DCS SYSTEM RESETTING. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
it should definately blink on start up, i think its like a self diagnosis it goes through when you first start the machine thats why it blinks.... i thought i read that somewhere anyways
 
i remember one guy add problem at full throttle ..not all time and it finish with a bad gaz pump... didnt see mutch problem about gaz pump here
 
Dcs

Hey guys.

Just to let you know, I discovered my DCS light was broken. Now it gives me three flashes on start up. : )

I will have to wait to the next trip to see if my occasional drops in power on top end were DCS related. My bet it is DCS related when one combines the latest gasoline qualty combined with my running the leaner 02 main jets still. Will go to the 01 settings this summer.

Well,

I went over for a ride today with the DCS now working, and its going off nearly everytime I give her a handful, no matter what speed plus temp light flickering occasioanally again Season is coming to an end so I guess my best guess is to go through the wiring harness this summer and rejet up to 2001 settings. Still think I have some bad fuel in there but hard to tell at this point.
 
rub through

Anyone experience rub through on a 2002 year srx?

I went to pull up my wiring harness a few weeks back and found that I couldnt do it as the wirign harness is inside a small metal sleeve mounted to the frame (under the carb-magneto area) which would not allow the connectors to feed through. My guess is Yamaha made this change to address the wire rub through issue.

if u find something let me know my friend got a 2002 and he got the same problem ...losss rpm on top end at full throttle ..we put new ring ,we put new power valve ,we clean carb ,adjust carb ,check motor alignment ,, clean clutch setting didnt change from the past and he still got the problem ,,now he change the gaz pump will see in a few day if it change something ....if it doesnt work ill let him try my coil pack and see................
