Diagnosis help needed: 02 SRX intermittently losing power

srx

Modrsx,

On my last weekend of riding last March my temp light started blinking and would lose power intermittently at top end. This summer, I took apart the power valves and found one broken. Since then, I replaced the borken valve and cleaned them and readjusted the valves. I also cleaned carbs this summer and put fres 93 fuel recently. Today, on my 1st rid around the property, the temp light went on once initially and since then it hasnt happened again.

My temp light flashing is seven flashes then repeats itself which per the Tech page is for the servo valve, I pulled off my serbo valve cover and opened her up to 8500 on the stand and servo and cables seemed to being working just fine.

From all my research and from previous posts, its the wiring harness or cdi unit. I inspected my wiring harness only partially as the harness under the engine is inside a foot long channel attached to the frame so I couldnt pull the harness completly thru.

I'll keep you posted what I find. My sled is stock excpet for clutching and have owned it since new.

Mark

same for my friend 100% stock just a bit clutch done......it will work perfect till he hit like 80 mph than rpm drop and he's dropping on mph ...that sled was very fast then suddendly that problem happen ,till that day that sled is pretty slow...can't figure what happend .a guy ask the same storie 2 years ago here for a 2000 and never been able to find the problem about it....

not sure but i think the other guy 2 year ago try to just stock the servo open but the problem didnt desapear on top end ............ hope for a bad fuel pump or a bad coil... u can look at post (fortress) made he never find the problem ..he try a new stator but same result

I ran into a similar issue on one of my Yamaha' tripples a few years back, I cleaned the carbs ect with no improvement, it would still run lean at full throttle[like it was running out of fuel] After exhausting all options I went back to the carbs. What I found under the float "needle seat" was an attached tiny mesh filter...they were all partially plugged!!! After removing the filter - no more problem! I immediately disassembled all the rest of my Yamaha flat slides and removed these filters![all 17 carbs had them!!!] Also have you checked/replaced the in tank fuel filter?

Yea they have the small screens. I never did figure out why they put them there? I am glad someone found out what was causing the problem. The fuel tank is another good answer. :bump:
