MM700 Boring out silencer????

Any you guys know if you can bore out the silencer on a 2001 Mountain Max safely. Does this affect any performance and will it sound better?? Any one done this?

I did it on mine before I got pipes and it worked great. Quick to do and sounds awesome compared to stock.
