1990 Phazer carb prolem

I suppose this question has been asked and answered many different ways by now, so hold on for one more. I picked up two Phazers this year, both had corroded carburetion systems. Both sets were cleaned. One machine runs great now, but the other has a bog that has to be ‘feathered’ through to get the top end. (Jetting is the same on both machines) What is weird as the problem is worse at the end of a day riding v.s. the beginning. By the way the problem follows the carbs as I have switch them from machine to machine trying to trouble shoot. I am hitting the end of my patients with trying to clean the dead spot out. What I have done:
  • move plugs back and forth (by the way the phazer manual is wrong, install the plug over the pickup tube that holds the pilot jet
  • spray carb cleaner and compressed air through all ports, jets and holes
  • pull the round 'freeze' type caps and clean under them
  • pull and clean all jets
 
When you clean the carbs make sure you not only blow them out, but run a fine wire thru each of the jet and holes. Sometimes they appear to be open,but still have some residue, so they are not getting full flow, and they run lean. I had one under the freeze plug that wasn't clean and it acted somewhat like you described. Also I always found that running 100 pilots worked better than stock 95. Hope this helps
 
There is a very tiny hole at the bottom of the mouth of the carbs. Make sure it is clean.
 
I will pull the carbs one more time. Maybe while they are pulled I will document the cleaning process with a write up and camera, as to provide more detail. I feel like I have already addressed both of the replys that I have seen. However, thanks so much, I will give it go one more time. I realy have enjoyed riding snowmobiles. Makes me wonder why I didnt get sleds sooner.

:cool: it appears that I have solved the problem. However, I did so many things I am not sure what the problem was. What has me baffled, is that I thought that I had done the same things before. SO I am sure that there just must have been something small plugging a pickup or jet somewhere.
