Has anybody got a good suspension (front & rear) set up specs ,for a 02 Viper, that works good with a seat riser (3inches in the rear 2 in the front) on average to bumpy trails. 150 to 190 lb. rider ?
I looked in the Tech section and it seems all I could find was all the Yamaha book specs. I would like to know your personal set up's that work for you. I think it could save me some major time for a base line. Besides it was 40 degrees here today and the snow is starting to melt fast.. Help me!!! turn on your air conditioners and open your windows !!!

I liked my ride after the new shock up date on my 2002 viper never really changed anything with the new shocks. I weigh in at 180# without gear but now with 3 or 4,000 miles on shocks they are getting to soft for me before that it rode like a tank to me. I'm thinking of putting an expertx in it but all and all everything is still the original parts including wheels and all (6,700 miles) I think that is darn good and it can go more but you get alittle nervous that your pushing your luck.I have the expert x in my rx1 and love it! If I don't have time for the viper this next coming year I'll just give it a couple of twists on the springs and it will be good to go. I dont know your riding style but I kind of calmed down alittle but if your alittle aggressive that expert x should be pretty good in the viper. I don't know personally because its in my rx1 but someone on hear will tell you probably the same thing I would imagine.

I also forgot to mention that there is a easy way of telling if you have the updated shocks I'm not positive if I'm right but I think on your transfers rods the bigger spacer is on the bottom. It's hard to remember that far back someone will chime in to help you out.

I bought both of my Vipers in spring 2001, I rode them that winter into 2002 and hated the suspension , the shocks sucked !
I had the upgrade done on both machines in spring 2002.
one machine has 3500 miles and the other has 1600.
They both ride good, but I am installing seat risers on both and just wanted to know if anybody with that Mod made any changes that they really liked.
Red Devil, do you have a seat riser ? :brr

Yes, I am making them myself. I am documenting the process. Most of what I am doing ,I got from idea's from this website. I think I did a search for (viper seat riser).
Aaron Exxcell makes the only commercial one I know of. I contacted him last week and he told me that he is not producing them anymore, and none of his suppliers have any leftover stock.
So, that leaves making my own. I am not finished yet , but I installed and rode with what I have built so far, and I love it!

Viper shocks

Rik,

I got an 02 and absolutley could not ride it with the stock shocks. Had them re-valved by bruce at Pioneer and they were better but still too harsh. I found a guy in New York that spent alot of time on Vipers and he re-valved my rear shocks and I think they are now pretty good. I'll give you his name and number if you ever want to try him.

Tony Spicola, 716-337-7411.

His setup is really nice.
