I am thinking of picking up a 2000 srx that has a motor with one bed cyl and it is apart and supposedly needs a piston, re nic or cyl and an nexhuast valve I havent been to look at it but I can get it pretty cheap I know nothing about these sleds this would be my first Yamaha are there any issues I should be aware of to look for when I go to see it? I have worked on sleds alot but as of yet I have no idea why it burned but hopefully will know more after I look at it. I also have been reading on clutching and it sounds like heelclickers are the way to go on these sleds, what are you guys getting for milage wit them clutched for good performance? Can I expect mid teens or better with easy riding on firelanes at steady 30-50 mph?

If you can pick it up for a song it's worth it I think. Hang on tight when you get it fired up,lol... My guess is you will get better milage than that, I have a 98 and get almost as good as a four stroke, almost!!! I'm thinking almost 15 to 18. My buddy and I go out and when we fill up, our next stop for instance he will put in 20 bucks and I will put in 22 or 23. Mine is all stock but still kicks ***.

I am kind of excited I got rid of my modded trail sled to get a mountain sled and if i can get this cheap enough I can have a mountain sled and still have something to trail ride around home and play with on the lake, I think I will still miss my edge 800 xcr though

Hmm... i'm only getting about 200 km (125 miles) per tank of fuel... for you klotzburner that's about 10.5 - 11 miles per US gallon or about 12-13 miles per Imperial (CDN) gallon That is riding fairly open trails mostly at speeds of 45-100 mph... I can get caught in the tight trails at about 35 about 25% of the time.. Heeclickers are supposed to be the cats @$$ for drag racing. I never messed with them much this year, they'll probably go in next year if I don't sell the sled. I like the 8DN-20 setup with WWW primary, 51/43 Yamaha helix with green secondary spring wound at 60-80... For me it is a very nicely rounded setup that will do it all with pretty good performance. For some reason I had problems with belt slip and premature wear on when riding off trail with the Heelclickers, but like I said I never did get to mess with them much. I only really tune at the beginning of the season and then just ride for the rest. But this year by the time I got the heelclickers in the sled it was already the middle of the season.
Anyway, I would definetly buy the sled if you can get it for cheap enough. One problem that is typical of the Pro-Action sleds is the Front Torque Arm in the rear suspension breaking/cracking near the bottom. Take a look at it pretty good. the Wire harness likes to rub through under the motor on these babies so you might aswell prevent that from happening with some convolute wire protector since you'll already be messing around with the motor. Other than that there isn't too much that typically goes wrong with them from my experience. Good Luck.

And as for you missing your Polaris 800, you might... you'll definetly miss the suspension, but you'll love the triple's smooth power and sweet sound. You'll find when the trails are smooth that it's the most fun sled to ride. You will find that you'll need to put minimal effort in to turning at high speed in winding trails... it corners like a slot car. Once the trails get rough you might aswell just go back home and get your mountain sled though lol.

I don't wanna knock the 800 edge but I think once you drive the SRX you will be very impressed with the performance. Suspension lacks a little but I swapped mine with an RX1 susp and it made a world of difference.

When we ride northern WI we usualy ride fire roads that are wide and very hard packed with sweeping turns and they plow them off enough that they ont get to rough as theres not enough snow to make big bumps so I think the srx would be the perfect fit sitting lower. as far as performance I know that these things can really go and it seems like the fastest ones are the ones that are just stockers that are well clutched and hook well. My edge had a trail ported 800 xcr tripple 185 "ish" hp that I liked alot but just needed something different and I kind of like a project/basket case. just waiting for a call back from him.
