Idles ok, runs good when I hammer it WOT. But when I hold the throttle steady at about 6000rpm the motor is sputtering.
It was about 30F outside temp, lots of snow dust when this was happening. I pulled over and checked the plugs. All looked good, dark brown color. I changed them anyway. I also noticed my belt was on backwards, opps. I put in on correctly. I also turned the heated carbs on, in case I was getting some icing due to cold temps and all the snow dust.
This seemed to 90% correct the issues, but every now and again I'd get a little sputter at around 6000.
My belt is worn, I need to change it. It's sitting a bit low in the secondary. I haven't cleaned the carbs, but I'm thinking that might be the problem.
Anybody have any other suggestions?

I'm not sure I would use the carb heater at 30 degrees, but then again I didn't use it at zero either.
This was the first time I had turned them on. Like you, I never turn them on.

If the solutions you already posted dont solve your issues I have a few more things for you to try. First is the spark plug caps. Make sure they are at 5K ohms each. That will definately cause the issues you are referring to. After you check that, check the resistance of your stator and compare to factory specs. Some of the red head's are tough on stators.
