I am doing some Mods to my Vipers and would like some opinions on clutching.
What kind of performance gains do you get out of a kit, be it Bender or Hauck, Etc. With a Trail kit. (helix , Pri & Sec Spring) ? Do you gain any speed in mid or top end ?
Do you lose one or the other ?
Should I just stay with stock for trail riding and sometimes WOT on a lake ?
I have read threads on TY forums, where guys have done spring color changes Primary and secondary and made their own clutch kits. What has that done for performance. (pro's & con's)
Any input would be helpful.

make your own kit. much cheaper for the same outcome. if your viper is stock, a popular upgrade is a 53/43 dalton helix and yamaha green spring @ 60-70 deg. this stuff you can find in the classifieds for little dough.

My Vipers are stock, One has a can. What kinds of changes can I see with these spring and helix changes?
I have the Hauck kit. Unfortunately, I never ran it stock, but I did try the 53/43 green spring thing last year and didn't like it. I had no backshift, and I didn't have time to play with it, so out it came and in went the Hauck. Engagement rpms increase, so it takes off in a hurry, jerking your arms good. If I put it to the bar, it goes up to 8600rpms and stays there. That may be slightly high for some people, but it was close enough for me. Backshift is really nice. I don't know if the springs loosened up a little or if it was just conditions, but on my last ride this year I was seeing 104 on the dream meter and that was the highest I've gotten it so far. It had more,too. I have electric start and reverse, a 1-1/4" ripsaw and I weight about 225 with gear. This year I was seeing about 11mpg, which is still better than my buddy's XCSP 700.
First dump the can you lose hp with it. I saw 96mph on gps with stock clutching on mine. Then when i did the hc 40-10's with the advatage 48-40 helix it changed to 103 on the same gps. I still hit that with 4000miles on the sled with the 136" 1.25" ripsaw.

I also tried the 53/43 Dalton with the green secondary spring and had the same problem with the backshift.I tried 60,70,80,90 wrap and nothing helped.The heel clickers are the way to go.

my 02 viper ran well with the hauck kit(#3 i think), speed sheave and yamaha torque limiter. much better all around preformance, clutch ran cool and easy on belt. somebody just sold one here for little $.

thank god I got dibs on that one,lol. I couldn't pass up the price. I've heard great things about the Hauck #3 clutch kit. I guess I'll know next winter.
