So I sold my 2001 SRX a couple weeks ago. It had just turned 5k and needed some work. Mainly engine maintenance and some suspension work due to rust and normal wear. It always had an awful ride (even with long travel) and my back just couldn't handle it. Previously I owned a 700xc polaris ('99) and really liked it as I had it almost 5 whole seasons. It was easy to work on and never had any problems, did do some upgrades to it...reeds, boost bottle, clutching. I must admit it didn't ride real well either though.(extra 10) The SRX was a PITA to work on and did give me some grief in the 2 seasons I had it. My wife has a 700sxr and she loves it. I like it as it has been very dependable, starts easy, and runs well now that I did some updates to it.(thanks mrviper700) Now I don't know what to buy or even look at??? I, 1st and foremost need a comfortable ride(be able to stand and ride in the bumps), it needs reverse, and it needs to be able to beat a her sxr 700 with my wife weighting about 80lbs less than me! So what are your thoughts??? I would buy another Yammi, or polaris, maybe a REV, but not a Cat. I am not against 4 strokes either. So I really need input....btw I am 5'11" and about 225. Thanks guys Dave

Nytro or Apex if it's a Yammi. The Nytro is darn quick.

I heard that Nytro is supposed to keep up with the Apex up to 100 mph or so.It has lots of torque apparently and lighter then the Apex.Prices are still to high for me for new sleds. They keep these prices high, and the next generation of sledders will be lost, for Yamaha anyways.Doo's are a bit cheaper to buy.

OH GOD I forgot to add I only have about $3k to spend. So I will assume an Apex or Nytro is out. I have always liked Vipers but I don't know if they ride all that well with the pro-action which was basically the same as my old SRX. IDEAS???
I have a 97 sx that I think is the same susp as your srx (short travel) and a 02 Viper ( long travel). The Viper hands down is a better handling sled that the sx is.The proaction skid is still no match for the xc skid tho.Thats why many people here have changed out their skids. IMO the Vipers are good strong reliable runners left stock and can easily be improved on.

It sounds like it may just be time to get another polaris. I refuse to start putting Polaris parts on a Yamaha, seriously what a joke.

I am a fan of Yamaha and own 5 of them but this year i bought a new trail sled because the sxr700 wasn't cutting it. I purchased a polaris iq and love it the 600 twin is very smooth and surprisingly quick.

I agree with Bluemonster, prices of new sleds are to high, younger guys can't afford to buy new sleds.
I am in my early 40's and I don't want to drop that kind of cash.
I bought 2 new vipers from the dealer in 2002 for $6400.00 each. Sled are double that now.
Prices doubled in less than 6 years !!!
Whats up with that ?

new Apex here last season was about $14,000to $16,000.My mechanic down the road from me decided to buy the 800 Renagade XP and told me he paid $11,000 for it.Same HP rating as an Apex.He was going to look at an Apex, but changed his mind and has had good luck with the sled.He is a serious sledder, puts a mega amount of miles on every season.Tells me all his money goes into the gas for his new sled and his MXZ that his wife rides. He and his buds do long distance riding everyweekend and every Thursday night they run about 5 hours easily and have been doing that for years now.

Well I only put on about 1,000 miles a year so I won't take a loan out for a new sled. For 3k I know I could find a nice 600-700 edge or a 03-04 rev 600 or 800. Not too many Cat dealers around and after having a few friends back in the late 90's have ZR600s that constantly broke down I wouldn't know what to look at or for. Is a 600 edge going to keep up with our sxr700? I won't buy a poo 800 too many issues with cranks.

I think that viper has a lot of miles on it. Also I really do need reverse. Do vipers ride that much better than my SRX did with the viper rear shocks? I LOVE the look of a viper and all and I know the 700 is great but I don't know if I'd be happy with the ride??? My thought is if the ride would be ok I think I may be able to stand up a lot easier on a viper compared to the other sleds I've had, maybe a 2" riser.
