Looking for information regarding fuel pump freezing on my 2002 viper.
I have had it since 02 and just started having problems. Tried shimming it up, but no luck. Why after 5 years is problem occurring. Only 2200 miles on sled and is garage kept.

Bought a new pump for my srx and the vent passage on new pump was not there. Viper uses same pump. Some have plugged with silicone.

I bought 2 new vipers in 02, the first cold weather we had (single digit nights) both of them would not start.
I took them back to the dealer, in short they said they knew about the problem.
They took off the pumps and put silicone caulk on a hole in the bottom of the pump that had a screen in it.
They said snow / moisture would get in there and freeze it up, thus no fuel flow.
Seen it happen to other Vipers too.
Your old pump is still good.
Why now, maybe you've just been lucky.
Anyway ,I still have both those sleds and haven't had a problem since.

When you buy a new pump it will be superceded by a pump that won't have any trouble. If you decide to keep the old pump and it freezes on the trail and you get stuck PISS on that pump to warm it up. She will fire right up.

I had it siliconed by the dealer too, but for more preventative maintenence I bought one of those pre-filters that fits over the air box from mountain performance. been fine ever since.

I bought another Viper 2002 er in WI. on Ebay,Great price, incredible sled,my wife thought I was nuts to drive from Toronto to Gary to pick it up. What a drive but was like new from the dealer. The dealer had some mods on the pump and lifted it up slightly, had no problems this year with both sleds ,did the same mod to my other sled .I have been told by and old Yamy mech. that put in a new pump after 10000 Km to keep it crisp and clean carbs every year to get at least 20000 Km before rebuild.Synthetic oil only for the power valves to operate most efficient. /////////////I did replace all bearings in the skid Last thing to do for next year replace track with a Ice-claw camoplast the best track for a viper.
