I was just curious how many people on here own a Yamaha A/V receiver. I'm in the market and can't decide between a Denon or a Yamaha. I'm more than likely gonna get a Denon but some of the Yamaha's are pretty nice too.
Do any of you own a Yamaha receiver?

I run yammie amps. I have a rxv 861 with up conversion running paridigm 7 piece speaker system. It works awesome & has a lot of sound field options. I like the way the ypz thingy sets the sound field for your sitting position. Denon is good a/v stuff too.

We sell both of those product lines, I think money for money wise the Yamaha gear is always nicer, Ihave Yamaha for my own personal gear.

I also own Yamaha. I don't know the model off hand, but it was about 600 bucks a year or so ago. I also like the mic thingy that sets the room up for you. I have it paired with infinify 5.1 surround and love it.
Edit - I just looked at the pic of the one you are considering. It looks very similiar to mine. My only complaint would be that the cooling fan runs more often than I would like. I knew that going in tho from the reviews. I would definitely buy again. The up convert option is also nice if you need it. I think I got mine from onecall.

I have the 5.1 Denon AVR2802 and the 7.1 Yamaha RXV1500, I bought mine from the Yamaha dealer not the plastic thing they sell at the big box stores, prefer the Yamaha as easier to adjust IMHO. Boston Accoustic speaker set with the DEnon and Paradigm with the Yamaha. Whole house rocks during a movie.

Yamaha Reciever 6.1,I think along with cd player running through
BOSE speakers & nice Klipsch base booster. Works nice for our needs. It can blast the cat off the couch & wife out of the house..LOL!!
It the 2nd Yammie sound system in 15 years, been very happy with Yammie audio products.

I do like Yamaha equipment, but I ended up with the Denon AVR-3805. That model featured 7.1 surround with auto setup, video up conversion, and up to 3 discrete listening zones... all of which I desired greatly. I matched it up with Paradigms all around (Monitor 7s up front, CC-350 mid, PW-2200 sub and ADP-350 surrounds).
The auto setup feature on that receiver is awesome. I've run it and double check distance measurements and they are scary accurate. Plus if you have an active sub such as mine there is usually some internal delay this is extremely difficult to measure. That internal delay added almost 6 feet to my sub-woofer measurement that wouldn't have accounted for.
Video conversion is great! No more grabbing the TV remote to switch inputs every time i want to play X-Box, or watch on old movie on the VCR.
Multi-room is also very handy with my outdoor speakers. Wife can watch TV, while I'm out in the back yard drinking beer, listening to music and talking snowmobiles. Good times all around!

My shop tuner/amp was a Yamaha. I don't care so much for the flat sound and I was unable to add the highs and lows I could with the old Sansui's. My son is shopping for a new one and is impressed with the Harmon Kardon (unsure about the spelling).

I actually own both a Yamaha and a Denon. The Yamaha model is an HTR-5950, and it's not a bad receiver, but not a great receiver. The Denon is an older model, and was the top of the line back in '98 (I think). I purchased it when digital first came out, for around $3000. It is an AVR-3200, and it blows the new Yamaha out of the water.
If you are looking at Yamaha or Denon in the lower priced stuff, they are comparable. Denon's high end stuff is much nicer, but you're going to pay for it.

I checked the model on mine this am. It's the HTR-5990 by yamaha. It also has all of the options below. Some of it will depend on what you want to do with it. Do you need the up convert? You can save some money if you don't. Do you plan to pair it with 7.1 or 5.1 surround.... Things like that. I felt like this was a good receiver that could do most everything. Amazon is also a great place to read reviews on this stuff.

I still have some of the old M60's and M80's that I use for music and they will blow alot of the new stuff away - flat with alot of power - for my surround I have a Denon 4308 - pretty hard to beat them for A/V - search the internet and you can buy them right - not the easiest to set up though - you almost have to be a computer programmer - I ended up hiring someone!!!

I've got a Denon 3805 currently, but am looking at new Yamaha's for the family room. The Denon does everything that I need, But I think the Yamahas might do it better, if that makes sense?
