My all stock viper has developed a strange kind of a clicking/raddle sound that seems to be comeing from the primary clutch. I have removed the belt and inspected the primary clutch the best I could without taking anything apart and can not seem to find the cause. Does anyone have any idea as to what might be going on?

I would not run it anymore till you pull the clutch and inspect, you may have
some wore out/broke parts in there..

Belt?

Did you try changing the belt? Lot's of people on here have smoked the belt and put a flat spot in it which makes it do sort of what you are describing. You may not see the flat spot but it's there. Change the belt and report back.

DOUBLE CHECK THE STARTER RING GEAR ,MINE MADE THE SAME EXACT NOISE, IM BETTING ONE OR SEVERAL OF THE BOLTS CAME LOOSE

Thanks guys, and no it is not the belt I tried my spare belt and it sounds the same.
I hope it's the starter like viperer said. Will report back after a good look.

Looks like viperer was right the ring gear bolts have come loose. Now I have to ask the question, how does one get at them to tighten them up? I can't get at them from the backside in under the exhaust. Do I have to take off the primary clutch and get at them that way? If so, how does one get the clutch off without a puller?

You'll need a puller to get the clutch off,,then pull the bolts add a good
high strength loc-tight to the threads and torque them down..

wow i guess those ring gear come loose at the end of a season your not the only one with that problem ....... i think i will continu to crank my little beast

My ring gear came loose second or third year I had it.Was glad to see it wasn't anything major.Been OK since the bolts were loctited and retorqued.

04 Viper S didnt come with a factory installed starter. Must have been added later.

Still waiting for sled. One bolt was missing and I guess the treads on the others were not able to tread into the holes so waiting for new bolts. I think I am being taken for a ride by the shop.....no sled untill the middle of next week. Living in a small remote community really sucks. Wish I had the tools to do the work myself. A side from this small set back I'm glad I bought another Yamie most reliable sleds on the market!

Well I got my sled back and after 1 week (waiting for new bolts) and $80.00. He told me that it SHOULD never happen again! (red loc-tight)
