Hi does anyone know the life expectancy of an SXR engine. The sled im looking at is a 2000 600cc triple and has 6,000 miles. How many more til the engine will die?
Thanks!
Thanks!

cant really predict how long a motor will last but I have seen Yamaha's go till 20000miles and were still running. Maintenenace is the key. With 6000 miles you will probably want to replace rings and check piston tolerance. The yamaha tripple are really stong and bullet proof.

Like YR said long time, them red head trips are very dependable, they last
many many miles when taken care of and not beat the shit outa everyday,
seen lots over 10,000 miles+ running strong still.
but i agree at 6,000 i'd be doing a top end and crank seals,do that and she'll be good for another 6K,,use OEM parts..

Red Head Triple
My 00 SXR had 8000 miles on it when I sold it to my son, he now has 13000 on it and he treates it like its name is Daman. He beats it with no mercy, like a red headed step child ! Still shows 130 PSI across and starts on the first pull even when cold. With the price of motors coming down, run it for all its worth. There is no exception to summerizing a sled motor. Do it right and it will last. 6000 is low mileage !

My friend has 10,000 miles on his and the motor has never been opened up. I did a compression check on it a couple weeks ago and they were all at about 125. The same gauge read 90 on a 97 XTC 600 that was still running but obviously needed rebuilt.

Same here '02 with just over 12,800 miles. Motor has never been opened, even compression, starts with a slight pull and a little bit of throttle.
