Before I put my 2000 SRX away for the summer, I decided to remove the power valves to see what parts I would need to buy since they have never been removed in 11,400 miles. One valve was stuck and had the cable pulled through but the other two were fine, they moved in and out smoothly but ALL of them were very difficult to remove due to all the carbon build-up. One valve came out fine, the end of one valve was slightly damaged from pulling on it to get it out and the valve which the cable pulled through also came out with a lot of work. I ordered 3 new valves and have a new seal and gasket set.
I'll be sure to clean these valves regularly, probably after each major trip of 700 miles or so. I've got a plan for fixing these valves. I'm going to remove the end where the cable connects to the valve and bore a pocket into the valve end. I'll then make a new end for the cable to attach to using stainless steel rod, this end will fit into the bored pocket into the end of the valve. I'll use a stud which will thread into the bottom of the pocket and the stainless steel replacement end. The only hard part is making a fixture for mounting the power valve into the lathe. Once I get this working, I'll gladly repair power valves for members of this site.
When I reinstall the valves, I believe I need to adjust the cables to make sure all three open completely. Right?
