I like the idea that a 4 stroke will last for many, many seasons, but the truth is that none of them excite me enough to go into debt $6-7K, with trade.
So, I'm curious as to what kind of milage, people have seen before having to spend major dollars in repairs etc. (blown motors and such)
My Viper S has been trouble free for 3 seasons, which I sure do like
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Well..this will throw you for a loop...I bought mine as an insurance job with 80miles on it...basically it was sitting at the bottom of the lake...only had to replace the Stator and CDI when I purchased it due to obvious reasons...I've packed 3000+miles on it so far without any problems yet...it runs like a dream...I turn the key and go...
I do want a 4stroker..and most likely will get a phazer as a second sled...but no need to part with this just yet...I've got at least 3 more years with this before I start
looking...
I love my yamaha...she may be an S.S(super sinker)...but my riding buddys are always tilting there heads at me at the end of everyride...they can't lose me no matter how hard they try...hehehehe..

I blew the motor on my Viper at 3600 miles. Besides that no major problems, now have 8,000 miles on it, all on original track
8000+ miles of rough riding and the stock track is just now coming apart. I have not been kind to this sled but the engine just keeps on purring. Be sure to re-ring and check pistons every 3k - 5k and the engine will outlast the suspensions. Preventive maintenance on these sleds is cheap, repair after failure due to neglect can get very pricey.

I know its not a Viper but its a good example of Yamaha reliability. We have a 97 SX 700 with 7400 miles. Tearin it down this summer to put piston rings in as a precaution/maintence item. Runs awesome day in and day out still. It would be hard to get rid of that one.

Ive got 11000km's on my 03 Viper and its still as quick as the day i got it. Never touched a thing untill this last fall, for the 1st time doing any bearing in it, still has stock track with 144 studs. But for some reason i blew 2 primary clutchs this year..

i've got 7,000 miles on my viper and still going strong. i replaced the track at 6,000 and sunk it with about 6100
. broke a motor mount bolt around 4,000 and i've had temp sensor problems since i got it used w/1500 miles on it. took it to 3 different dealers and no one completly fixed the temp sensor problem. i said the hek with it and just put a temp guage on it. i can't complain, it has been a great sled and keeps going strong

9150 trouble free miles on it before the bearing in the crank took it out and the center cylinder piston crank etc... loved that sled, clean the power valves check the suspension and ride!

5800 hard miles on the motor did rings around 5200 and a speedo side bearing and one in the chain case and thats it. you cant beat these sleds in my opinion.

7800 miles before the crank bearing went out, no other major repairs before that, going to fix the crank and try to get 10000 miles on it
