HEY GUYS, i was wondering if it is possible to run my 2002 srx 700 with the dcs unhooked or disabled! i am racing my sled this weekend and i am afraid that the dcs light will come on for some stupid reason an make me loose power or just not have enough. it comes on sometimes for no known reason, well i know it comes on for a reason but my sled runs great but i do not want the light to come on. i am racing wide open throttle uphill for 800 feet. i have heard that some people have taken the sensor out and taped it aside away from the engine, will this work as atemporary remidy. i do not want to do this permonantly just for the weekend. lemme know what i can do " safely " i might add...
Thanks everyone.

safest and easiest is to use supreme, premium or a mix of av or race fuel.

Instead of disabling it why not properly jet it and run the right fuel instead
of band-aiding it..

Maybe it isn't working very well, DCS and the other knock sensor systems aren't perfect and they are setup on the safe side.

I agree with daman.... correct the jetting, powervalve, fuel or clutch issue and then run it.... I know it can be a pain in the a$$ i went through it all to last year but thanks to TY and the many different members that helped out with my many annoying posts lol i got it cured.

UNLESS you wanna see a puff of smoke come out from under your hood, you better leave it alone.I jetted up and run good fuel and my DCS was not a problem all last winter. The season before that was another thing. It came on basically all the time.No race fuel here, just good premium, run sea foam in the gas to keep things clean and the water out.
Mind you it could be a pain when you are racing and it comes on.Just go and solve the issue instead of masking it like daman said.

Put some yamaha octane improver in it, helps a long way, YES it actually works.
The part # is like
acc-octne-impr
or something like that
12 ounces for 12 gallons.

The problem is the gas quality, plain and simple, its not rocket science. This is why the octane booster helps, because how do you know your really getting 93-94 premium octane? just because it says so on the pump? what about the guy in front of you who just used the 87 octane, the line all the way to the pump has 87 in it till it pumps up the so called 93-94 premium. Another thing is its thought that 91 octane is premium, no, thats mid grade. There was talk a little ways back of random test done on fuel and the 87 octane was only in the 70 something octane range, so what do you think the premium is?
The answer to DCS is NOT to jet it way up as people suggest, all your doing is losing power by making the engine so rich, it cools the piston off, and for that matter your pipe center section temp. You need some temp in the piston crown and you need temp in the center section of the pipe to make power. YOU LOSE power jetting it pig rich as suggested, the answer is simply higher octane fuel. I am not talking 110 octane but something right around 98-100 octane mixed in with so called 93-94 premium fuel and the sled jetted to 148.8,148.8,150 will perform very well trail riding. For grass racing you can jet it down in the range of 135 mains, go up on the pilot jets to 45-47.5. needles should be raised a half clip to 3.5 for grass. I raced a 02 srx on grass with this very set up and never had any real performance robbing issues with the DCS.
The DCS is telling you something when it blinks, you need better fuel!

Don, Whats the fuel and octane booster ratio for a tank of 93 octane? How many bottles of booster do you need to run as per your reccommended jetting?

THIS IS FUNNY. I HAVE TOLD YOU GUYS SINSE 2003 WITH DCS ISSUES STARTED BEING POSTED HERE YOU NEED MORE OCTANE. I RUN 100 OCTANE IN MY 2002 OR 50/50 110 WITH PUMP. DCS HAS NOT BLINKED IN FIVE YEARS. NOW A OCTANE TEST WAS DONE ON A GUY THAT BROUGHT A NEW 800 XP TO C & H DYNO HERE IN NY. GUY BOUGHT FIVE GALLONS OF 93 CITGO PREM. FUEL AFTER TESTED TURNED OUT TO BE 76 OCTANE. THINK THAT WOULD TURN YOUR DCS LITE ON. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I didnt feel any power loss by jetting up.
A guy that weighs 100 LBS more than I do rode my SRX and got the DCS light to come on in half the time it would have if I was on the sled. Why is that? Is the motor building up more heat with more of a load on it? Im sure it is. After a bunch of wide open runs, (like how I normally ride) my motor FREAKIN HOT!! I mean real hot like Ive never seen an engine get hot before. Why cant I give it a little more fuel than you suggested? Octane booseter gets expensive after a while and is a PITA to keep an inventory of you on hand on the trail. What do you suugest Don?

Tomseal6, as I have said before many times, run a half bottle booster to every fill up. Is it really that hard to buy 2 bottles of octane booster for $4 each and place them in the trunk?? That gives you 40 gallons of gas range using a half bottle per fill up, so you spent 8 bucks extra for your trip! Average mpg on a srx would be around 13, so 13 into 40 gallons of gas would be 520 miles, thats alot of riding.
Theres alot of trail ported 02 srx out there and they are not having problems because instead of trying to out think the person building them they listen and use whats reccomended and they dont have issues, you need better fuel plain and simple.
The dcs will come on on a bone stock 02 srx, the trail porting doesnt have any more effect then being stock, its the gas quality. I can see upping the stock 02 jetting up to 01 specs but thats as rich as you need to be, any more your just cooling off the crown and combustion temp, center pipe temp to prevent the frequency waves of detonation from less then quality low octane fuel! just like Tony says he has a stock 02 srx and all he did was mix in better gas because the gas quality you buy these days is plain ol JUNK!
octane booster isnt going to turn 87 into 94 octane, but it will keep the edge off of pump fuel premium and it is a heck of alot cheaper then a new piston/rings and plating of a cylinder, just because the 02 srx has dcs doesnt mean its incapable of burning a piston.
edit:added information: I run 152.5 mains in most all 780 srx kits, doesnt matter on the year of the srx. So if a 780 only uses a 152.5 main jet, how could a 700 need more jet? same pipes, same head clearances, same cranking compression, same cdi box, same carb racks???????????? the only bigger jets used is when they add big bore pipes to the 780's then you use 157.5 mains!

Yes that is why tom, just like a empty p/u alone won't spark knock,buttomseal6 said:A guy that weighs 100 LBS more than I do rode my SRX and got the DCS light to come on in half the time it would have if I was on the sled. Why is that? Is the motor building up more heat with more of a load on it?
hook up to a car trailer with a load on it using the same gas and get on it
it'll spark knock like hell, same principle as you and your buddy's weight
difference on your X.
i think the srx somday is going to be like the muscle cars of yester year
only "weekend warriors", because the quality of gas OR money for
quality gas just isn't there to run 'em every day..
Any brand of octane booster that you recomend? Some have to be better than others, so which one do you like? I ask since my 780 obviously needs good fuel.
By the way I had it out some this week and its a rocket. Yamaha should have just built it that way from the factory. My wife rode it some and asked if I'd just trade sleds with her.(Nope, not going to happen)

There is a diff.,buy bottles that are not clear and have a WARNING on themRyan B said:Any brand of octane booster that you recomend?
with the ingredients listed..
all octane booster is not alike, allot of it is crap, does nothing, found a wright up on O/B a wile back, very interesting.
Don,
Thank you for getting me that information. I can understand that now and will try that. I will put the mains back to what you had told me to run and try some octane booster although the fatter jeting seemd to help.
Please bare with me some more. I promise I am not trying to out-think you and I probably couldnt even if I tried. I COMPLETELY understand the bad quality of gas now.
OK now, What brand of octane booster and what size bottle do I need to get? Dump half the bottle in per fill-up correct?? Need some more help.
Oh the clutching is spot on now and sled runs perfect except the DCS light. couldnt be happier with every thing else.

I have always used the 104+ brand booster, black bottle, you can get it at advance auto parts, autozone, usually about $4-5 a bottle, they treat up to 20 some gallon per container, I dont follow thier mixing directions and just dump 50% of the bottle in per tank fill up(10gallons), never once had any issues. The thing is its cheap insurnace as you really dont know what your getting out of the pump these days, trail side gas stops are most likely even worse quality.
I am sure there are all kinds of boosters out there, some of them better then others, proablly do some research and see whats the best and most available to you and use that paticular product line.
Glad to hear she runs good Ryan
, take care.

I use 9 gallons of octane booster to 1 gallon of premium fuel. Gauranteed no DCS issues!

Klotz
I have had really good luck with the KLOTZ octane boost. It comes in a blue metal container and they call it octane boost and fuel stabilizer. I have been told (not that it is necessarily true) that if octane booster comes in anything but a metal container then it is junk. Last year at the end of the year I had a freshly opened bottle of the stuff and since it said it was a fuel stabilizer I dumped half in my SRX and half in my viper and rode them around a little bit. When I cleaned the carbs at the beginning of this year they were so clean it was amazing. I attributed this to the KLOTZ stuff and did the same thing again this year. Just my 2 cents.
