LIFE MEMBER ONLY ONCE!!!
On my install today, was talking to this guy who mentioned how his brother-in law was almost killed riding his sled with a buddy one night in Lockport,Manitoba.
He said..sure they had a few drinks at Gaffers Restaurant and bar,and they got on their sleds and started to ride home. They weren't going that fast, around 80 km an hour, riding side by side along the river. Now remember this is at night now,so it is dark out.
Then from around a corner suddenly a light appears,so they think fast and started to spread apart thinking that the sledder coming up quick on them would go between them.BOY WERE THEY WRONG.
What happened next was unthinkable. The light that was coming towards them was not a sled.Let me repeat...it WAS NOT a SLED.What was it?They sure found out in a hurry and almost paid with their lives.Remember it was dark,so to their surprise this light was coming from a car running down the river with 1 headlight only.Of course the guy in the car panicked seeing the 2 lights ahead of him and started braking..thus taking their car into a sideways slide.Sideways right into the 2 sledders.
The sled to the right just clipped the back end of the car, while the other fellow slammed headon into the right side door.It was an instant stop for him.He was of course knocked unconscious. He had major damage to his body, the most serious was to his leg..an artery was severed and his leg was mangled. And other injuries also with broken bones. He lost nearly 2.5 pints of blood before he could be taken to the hosiptal.Basically it was going right into a brick wall.He has also had pins put into his leg after surgery. It is lucky for him that he survived this.
Could you imagine the mess. But you would not have time to react to this and it happened really quick. He is a survivalist and continues working and life goes on.If he was lets say going 100 mph, they would be picking him up with a spatula. This is a true story that happened a few years back.
Goes to show ya that you have to be prepared for the unforseen.Because they had a few drinks in them helped and didn't help.Didn't help the reaction time, but helped because his body was in a more relaxed state and not all in a tensed tightened up position.
The guy driving the car should of been shot for what he did and caused to happen.Don't know what charges were laid or what.
