i have been trying to get the ring that goes at the end of the muffler in to the silencer, what they are sending me is a piston ring, and they are saying that is the part i need...dont sound right or look right to me, there is nothing left on the muffler for me to compair it to, does this sound right to anyone?? it dont seem like it would be much of a seal to keep that nasty oily smoke from blowing out at that connection

yes the 97 use a piston ring in 98 and newer they changed the muffler and went to a lead donut style.
any clue on how fast this sled should go?? bought it at an auction and have to wait till winter now to find out LOL, seems to be all stock except for the suspension, from what i can tell from looking at others it has the M-10 suspension on it

The m10 takes about 5-8mph vs the stock suspension.
All those different colors have to take a couple of MPH off, too.

As Pro said, the 97's require the piston ring style junction between the pipe and silencer. I dont see how a lead donut style could even fit on the 97's...they don't have the socket end on the silencer to accept the donut, and the end of the pipe has the spot for the piston ring on it on the 97's.
the second part they sent me was the donut style, it fits in the silencer but will not fit on the end of the pipe, was going to do a little grinding to make it work but guess i will get the piston ring and hope it seals it up good enough. if not will dump in some high temp silicone around it to fill the gap?
I would still put high temp gasket sealer on with the ring as I think the ring deal was junk I don't know how many I had break on me.

Definetly run some high temp on those rings don't overdue it but use enough for a good seal.
how fast should i expect this sled to run? around 5000 miles on it, like i said i just got it at an auction 4-5-08 and will not be able to ride it for a good while (central Ohio) only thing im really concerned about is that it keeps up with or out runs the 03 arctic cat F7 that a friend of mine brought back from the same auction LOL
I don't think your going to be out running a f7 with a stock redhead anytime soon. Them buggers are quick.

You're going to be doing some work to beat the F7, especially the 2003's....those were the fastest.
may have to make the 700 my wifes and get 1 a little quicker for me, we work in the same office and i know i would never hear the end of it if he can blow by me...Only thing im figuring on is he dont have the kahoonas to run it flat out....found that out from previous motorcycle trips we have taken LOL

Your sled is about 118 HP stock, an F7 is about 140HP, not much chance of out running him.

In March the guys (cousins & brothers, etc.) in my family get together for a 4 day ride. 90% are Poolaris nuts, My little brother owns a 800 zrt and a 600 xcr. My nephew owns an '06 F7. I was ridding my 700sx. After none of them except my nephew could keep up with me, they all took my sled out and his f7. They all came back with BIG sh!t eatin' grins from both sleds. Mine was quicker out of the hole, but that F7 was unbelievable at the top end. My sled was hitting 97-98 mph on the GPS. His F7 was doing 120's. the first ride I took on the F7 I pinned it from shore, by the middle of the lake (with the skis still up in the air) felt like was doing 85 or so, I looked down to see the readout at 115! And it still had throttle left! I love my sx, and plan on riding it for a while, but that F7 was awesome. BTW, my little brother zrt, besides riding like a bucket of bolts, wasn't as fast as my sx.
Earlier in the season on a nice cold day (0° or so), my sled hit 105, after letting it unwind all the way. I bought 700 sx this year as well, and as far as I can tell the only mod is a thin head gasket.
