LIFE MEMBER ONLY ONCE!!!
Who can tell me if the jackshafts from a 2001 and from a 2002 SRX are identical or are they different.I would think they would be the same.Trying to compare them in the Yamaha Parts Section, but can't get that site to show a pic of them.Does anyone know for sure if they are the same or not?I am looking for some used ones in good shape for my 02 SRX.One to replace my original and a spare one. Thanks again for your help...daman you know?

I knew you would come thru for me daman..thanks bud.Yeah, noticed when I took my secondary off the shaft, that there is a small amount of play. The shaft moves a little in the bearing.Checked the SXR shaft and it is good. The bearing is brand new in the SRX since last summer and doesn't have many miles on it.now I am worried and was told by others that my shaft could be worned due to bearing set screws loosened up.Don't know yet, will have to take everything apart just to get that shaft out...what a a pain. Not in a rush to do it but a little pissed off that this has ocured.Got a couple of jackshafts lined up to purchase and they are from a 2001 SRX.If I get this fixed and my clutches all rebuilt, sled should run top dog nest season. It's always something ....right daman, what did I do to deserve this.I got to take pipes off, carbs, air box anyways to re-align my clutches..so taking chain case, gears and shaft out is a little more work.Done it twice already...one time on each of the sleds,so it is not new to me at least.Step by step it will get done.
Rain and wet flurries coming this Friday to Sunday..so maybe I will slowly start to dis- assemble the sled, there will be no yard work to do..did it last weekend anyways. We need the rain since it has been very dry out here this spring.Later!!!

Blue, I did this job three times this year on my 02. first time was the jackshaft bearing on the clutch side, 50km's later the jackshaft bent and 200km's after that , the lower chaincase bearing went. I think i have it down to a 3 Beer job now.
Daman, i got a question for ya. What is the rubber insert and the end of the jackshaft on the secondary side for?? damper?

daman, you already missing the snow.We are supposed to get a freak storm tonight.Frezzing rain and 5-10 mm of wet snow tomorrow and a high of 1 C.Just going to be wet out.Besides, the sleds are fogged and summerized. It would take like 1-2 feet of snow to get me to fire up a sled again.

I will get a pic tonight, it was actually on the chaincase side of the shaft.

are you referring maybe to a chaincase seal at the end of the case where shaft goes thru. This seal keeps moisture out hopefully. If it is shot, then change it.

It is a rubber insert on the end of the shaft. It is there because the shaft is hollow, and it keeps stuff from getting in or out.

That is why you do all the bearings at the same time. If one fails the others are probably on there way out.

I installed all new bearings in my sled last summer. There wasn't an excess amount of miles put on them this past riding season. But I probably would change both jackshaft bearings and check my gears and chain for wear. Some said if the set screws got loose on the PTO bearing of the jackshaft, this may cause some play and the shaft could of worn down slightly. It is such a small play in there, but there is play and that shouldn't be with all the rpm's and rotations that shaft goes..eventually would get worse. When I remove the shaft in the summer or late fall, quess I will find out more. But I will be on the lookout for 1 or 2 jackshafts(1 for a spare)

Did them all the first time, I guess it's these cheap shitty chinese bearings.

The ruber plug is to keep your chaincase oil in the case and not migrate out through your secondary bolt, makes a mess if it's not there. That's why it's on the chaincase side. All jackshafts from any trailing arm sled is the same, 97' up.
All hollow Yammie jackshafts have had the plug, look at any old Vmax. PZ, Exciter.
