I just found an Exciter SX for $1500. It has all redone suspension, new track and studs hardly rode with 8000km. I was wondering if this would be a good deal with the kms so high. I know this is expected of an older sled. Also what was the life expectance of these sleds.

A friend of mine just bought one with 5000 miles needing some tlc for $400
in the Minneapolis area last weekend. Came with manuals & a spare 1" lug track with 142 piks, guess he got a good deal right!!

Would like to find that deal around here!!
 
I think the lowest you'll find anything worth riding(in Ontario anyway), is probably $1000-$1500. There are smoking deals out there to be sure, but I never seem to trip over them. Make sure the sled has tunnel/rear heat exchanger protectors installed and that the heat exchangers haven't been damaged by the studs. A true SX will have flatside carbs and adjustable front spring preload. The Exciter II SX is a bit of a collectors sled......And I sold mine 4 years ago for around $2000. :o| :o| :o| :o|
 
Ya thats what i was thinking I really like the sled an its a classic so i think i can deal with the km's. They are also very had to find in good condition. It looks like the front shocks are toast anyone know how much they cost and where i could get them in Canada cheapest.

Are you talking about the front shocks/struts? Those are unique to that sled alone, and they had way too much sag in them new so if it sits a little low that may be OK, I believe I have 1 new one left and no one makes anything for the front of that sled.
 
Make sure everything has 8AY on it,cylinders,CDI and of course flat slide carbs..
The best Exciter I ever owned.I had put a Reichards single pipe on it and it was a tourqe monster..
You could do some clutching on it..
8CA's weights are a good start.The stock weights are too light..
Great sled..
 
If you could find a Bender orange primary spring and twist the crap out of the secondary spring you could run 8BU weights with no rivets..

The PSI's made more power but the Reichards single pipe had alot more tourque..I went with that for trail riding..
Absolutly the best looking Exciter and performance wise also...
Also that ingnition system is unique to that sled also..
Way different timming curve compared to any other Exciter of that year..
 
looks like the reichard pipe with the long y pipe was the way to go, good torque #'s. inline, did you have the long y pipe?
