Can you install 06 Apex bars on a viper? Will the warmers work right?? How much extra riser do I need to be back to the same height?
Thanks for any help

Depends
It's easy on an 04 viper S because they came stock with a split throttle block. With a 02 or 03 you'll play hell with getting off the bar hooks and then the heated grip (without wrecking it) so you can get the throttle block on the bar. If you have an 02 or 03 Viper just get a RX-1 or 04 viper S throttle block so it is easier to install....you will also have to get a new throttle/oiler cable if you go this route since it is a 1 into 2 cable rather than 2 separate cables. On the riser....I used to run stock viper bars with a 2" riser block. To obtain the same height I used a 4" Rox pivoting riser with the apex bars.
This is a worth while mod.....the bars were much more comfortable for me.

Warmers
I forgot to tell you about the warmers. If I were you I'd look for a set of the 06 "update" bard that have no heat sucking aluminum bar hooks installed in them. The bend and the grip are all one piece. In addition, they have a little resistor pack all wired in which makes the grips run nice and HOT!

the reason I have the 06 bars is because I put the updated ones on my attak Thanks for the info.

so you're saying that the grips will plug right into a an '04 viper with no changes?

How do oyu wire the 06 update bars to a 01 srx? Did anybody do it yet?

any update on how to wire these? I have 06 to put on my 03 viper and just never got there, now I forget...
I just installed a set on my viper. Not sure if I'm going to stick with them or not. My cables seem to fit tighter with the apex bars and I really don't want to mess with extending my cables. The overall height is approx the same as it was with the viper bars, but since there's no rise with the bars, the cables have a longer(the cables are forced to go over top the bar and pad) reach. I may throw the viper bars back on but cut them back some and swap out the grips and hooks from the apex bars.
I previously had stock viper bars with a 3" pivot riser
Now: Apex bars with 2" block and 3"pivot riser (pictured)

Just did my 02 Viper with 07 Apex bars. Used a Rox pivot and 4 inch riser. Its about 2 inches higher than stock now .Did not change any cables or lines. Heck of a time getting the throttle block on but it worked out. Wired the grips in parrallel to keep the same resistance as the stock Viper wired in series. Removed the heaters and put heat shrink tape on the bars then re-installed the heaters.(a tip a read from a BTV topic about hot grips). Not sure how it works yet , it almost above freezing here and rain is forecasted for the next few days.Went for a short rip and they did heat up.

Do you have any pics you can post? I'm curious how you ended up running your throttle/oil cable. Did you go with the rox pivot riser plus a 4" riser or a 4"pivot riser? If you went with the rox pivot plus a 4", isn't that a total of 5"? What is this heat tape you're referring to? Did you fill the inside of the bars? Did you use the OEM grips or aftermarket elements and grips?
I went with the 06 bars since they use the two piece design (hook and grip are separate) and could easily slide the viper throttle on and then reinstall the grip. As you can see in my pic, my throttle/oil cables have to reach over top the bars/pad and while it doesn't pull when turning wither way, it's much tighter than I'd like. I used aftermarket elements and grips(Cat Grips) on my old viper bars and while it worked great, I didn't care for the thinness of the grips.

any pics of the wiring? I need al the help I can get with that stuff, and a pic would ease my mind that I am not messing things up! thanks!

It's very simple... You have two wires from the sled... and then two wires from each grip.
There are a couple different ways to wire, but I believe this is how it's done from the factory (see pic). if you want to be safe, look at how they are currently wired and copy, especially if you're using the stock apex grips. I'll look again this week to see how i wired them. For some reason I feel like I changed it from the factory way, but don't remember for sure.

and it is just same color wires to same color, or are they different? thanks again, really don't want to fry anything

Well, the problem is, the wires off the grips are solid black with no labeling. I think I played with them until I got them right. After thinking about this some more, I am almost sure I wired mine differently than what I showed above. The above way is how the vipers are wired from the factory, but I remember wiring my aftermarket elements a different way. Now I'm confusing myself.
I'll check my sled out in a few days and confirm.
The above is done in "series" and I think I wired mine in "parallel".
Maybe someone else can chime in.

lol, thanks, let me know in a few days
Eric

Okay. I didn't look at my sled, but i have my old handlebars here and can tell by the wiring that I did indeed wired them parallel. One wire from each grip to the positive(one with the red stripe) wire on the sled. Then, take the remaining wire from each grip and connect them to the other wire on the sled. You will have two 3 wire connections. I had my aftermarket grips wired this way the past 3yrs with no issues.
I had heard that the fix from yamaha for either the 06 or 07 sleds(whenever they had issues with the warmers) was a harness insert that basically changed it from a series to parallel connection.
If you want, just wire them like your existing grips(above pic) and see how they work.

Hey ajviper
The "heat tape " is heat shrink tubing. It is used for electrcal wiring. I bought it from the local parts store. I used the original grips from the Apex bars. Took them off very carefully while holding them in hot water. They are wired in parallel.I did not foam the bars.Did not see the need to use the foam since I isolated the heaters from the steel bars with the heat shrink tubing.
I used the Rox pivot adapter and a Rox 4 inch pivot extension.
Here's a couple of pics of the bars and how the cables run into the bars

I see what you did now with the heat tape. You heat wrapped the bars and then installed the grips over the heat tape? How easy did the grips slide over the heat tape? I have the 06 apex bars, so the grips and hooks are separate which would require less area to heat wrap.
I do like how you have the throttle/oil cable running underneath the bar. I have mine running over the bar and pad and it seems to be a little too tight. I didn't use my stock pad either, so maybe I'll reroute the cables and use the oem pad. Thanks for the pics and heat wrap idea.

you just use bullet connectors? thanks a lot, that sounds very doable! Eric
