What year is my motor????

If the rings were never changed, 6400 miles is a TON.

My 02 SRX I bought back in the fall of 2005 had that SAME EXACT MILEAGE. I brought the sled over to an engine builder to get the motor ported, rebuilt, clutches rebuilt, and completely gone through.

When he tore the top end down in front of me, I was disgusted, disgusted on how never changing the rings have caused so much blow by and the pistons being dam near a full millimeter out of the minimum spec. Since the rings were worn so bad, the pistons were actually rocking back and fouth and scuffed a very small amout of Nicasil off the cylinders. Eventually the pistons will rock so hard, they will shatter and cause catastrophic damage.

Not to mention the fact that Yamalube (Yamajunk) was ran through the motor for an eternity. My piston crowns were crispy black. My wrist pins were dark purple from severe heat and looked disorted. My wrist pin bearings were charcoaled.

After the rebuild, I now run good full synthetic oil IE amsoil, klotz

Yes, go through your sled and look for these things.

Add 2 stock base gaskets(total of 3) & cut the head 25 thou. Cut it 30 thou if you allways get good premium. Good for 6-8 hp & cheap.

turk, is there any jetting changes after these mods are made? does this mod work for '00-'02 srx's as well, or just the '98-'99?

Don't do this to an 00-02 srx unless you plan on running higher than 93 octane. Run 2001 SRX jetting in all srxs.

would the reason for this be, cause the '98-'99 srx's had lower comp domes or something, versus the '00-'02 srx's?
